Sedat Jobe's socalled announcement of withdrawal from their purported mediating role in the Cassamance is nothing but a stark manifestation of a disgraced leadership forced to end a dangerous con game masquerading as a legitimate effort at peacemaking. The entire orchestration involving summoning diplomats and reporters was solely meant to spin an issue that was settled month's ago. Afterall President Wade in his first weeks in office flew in to the airport at Yundum and according to a Reuters dispatch told Yahya he was assuming control of the Cassamance negotiations from then on. He delivered his edict at the airport and would not even venture into town much less break bread with Yahya Jammeh. The symbolism and the manner in which Yahya's role was terminated was calculated to send a message of strong disapproval. Did Yahya and his team bury their heads in shame and accept their exclusion from the process? Nope. Instead they continued to try to whittle whatever goodwill they can from the outside world by pretending to be working tirelessly for peace in the Cassamance. Infact they have tried to use their purported role in regional peacemaking as a way to deflect outrage on their tarnished streak of human rights abuses. The President once wondered aloud how he could be accused of murdering his own people when he is working so hard to avoid strife and conflict in the neighborhood. The gov't of Senegal has a serious national security concern over what is happening in the Cassamance. They know better than investing valuable diplomatic capital on a regime that has neither the inclination nor the ability to even ameliorate much less resolve the conflict. Infact they have ample reason to believe Yahya Jammeh fits the mold of a catalyst to the conflict and hence at the bare minimum must be far removed from all efforts towards a solution. As an added bonus the Jammeh gov't would be denied their undeserved self anointed position of peacemaker. Killers and other evil leaders are distinctly in a league of their own and must not be allowed to get out of their box through false pretenses. I say good riddance to Yahya and Sedat . You would have to try to dabble into other sinister aspects that has come to characterize you regime. You may want to spend your time and the very meager resources of our country to cavort with your fellow dictators and tyrants who like you have their nations everyday life drenched in the blood of their conscientious citizens. You do not belong on an honest peacemaking table. You may also continue to delude yourself with the designs and thinking of recalcitrant trouble makers like Cassamance rebel spokesman Alex Zendra Gibba who told the BBC programe 'network Africa' this weekend that"Gambia, Cassamance and Guinea Bissau are one country' . The good news is that this Gibba fellow shares such a ridiculous premise with only you and Sedat in thinking that redrawing maps is contemplatable.Gambians will shortly be lead by legitimate people who they select of their own volition. Our brothers in Senegal and the subregion would recognise their integrity and forthright devotion to peace and respect for the rule of law and human life. That would then give them moral standing to conduct effective diplomacy that would be devoid of the shameless posturing the Jammeh gov't have honed into an artform.Until then the gov't and good people of Senegal are right to isolate the Gambia with it's current leadership.
