Musical Chairs:

Although President Jammeh is not a very popular figure on the G-L, and
that may be an understatement.
However, even among his supporters, and to other objective critique of
his regime, President Jammeh does not make
It any easier. Clearly, there are disgruntle PPP supporters who
definitely have an agenda of their own and
would go to any distance to be critical of President Jammeh. For
instance, the allegation of the grenade causing the accident
was definitely a stretch, baseless and irresponsible.

President Jammeh, to your supporters and some objective people
interested in lifting our country our of the old politics
Of yesteryear, you have definitely become a lost course. On a more
personal note, some of us believed Jawara was
the worst thing to ever happen to the Gasmbia, and was ecstatic at his
removal, but would do anything to have him back.
Sir, the change you promised never happen, the things we did not like
about Jawara still remains, the good things disappeared,
Hopefulness became hopelessness. Case in point, you removed Mr.Batchi
Baldeh last year because you were convinced that
you were committed in devising an energy policy, NAWEC was brought under
the Office of the President and for whatever reason he was the wrong
person for the job. Some of us who knew Mr. Baldeh vehemently opposed to
the decision, but to no avail.
My problem is what has happen since then to convince you that he is the
best person for the Job now. Sir, you are either
surrounded by terrible advisors, not allowing board of directors to do
their job or you thing this country is your personal
property and you can make changes as you wish. You have to take
responsibilities for bad decisions you make, delegate and allow
people the latitude to contribute their quota without interference. If
Mr. Baldeh is given the space and the ultimate power,
just maybe he will be in a position to tackle this energy nightmare. I
am sure you will agree that your intervention up to this point
has not made that much of a difference. I am sure, in your mind you are
committed to finding a solution to the problem, of course,
the road to failure is always pave with good intentions.

Musical chairs were one of the games that President Jawara played very
well, and we really hated it. But to
his defense, his musical chairs tended to be played among political
appointees. He was known for changing Ministers,
Firing Ministers and Parliamentary secretaries and
rarely moving and switching Permanent Secretaries. Firing Managing
Directors and Civil Servants were unheard and very
uncommon. That is one of Jawara’s way of doing things we would
definitely like to see back.
