culled from allaafrica.com Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade has expressed his regret over the Wednesday death of a student, Balla Gueye, during clashes between security forces and protesting students at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Dakar. Wade also said he deplored the unexpected turn of events taken by the students' movement, saying that the students should have requested an audience with him to make known their demands. Just as he did with students of the University of Saint- Louis whom he received alongside the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the second Senegalese university, Wade said he was prepared to meet with the UCAD student leaders to discuss their problems. The president, speaking during an audience with members of the Front for Change, a coalition of parties which helped him to the presidency in March 2000, called on the gathering to observe a minute of silence in memory of Gueye. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html You may also send subscription requests to [log in to unmask] if you have problems accessing the web interface and remember to write your full name and e-mail address. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
