Sidi, A mea culpa here: I should have qualified my assertion which you wrote to correct me on. By asserting "Brother! I'm not in the business of sniping ["garruwalley" as you insinuated in your mail] behind covers; let's leave that to the ladies", i was referring to the fact that petty sniping, especially covertly, is considered effeminate and wholly in the realm of women and gossiping. Hence i mocked that to go for that would tantamount to acting like a woman; men are supposed to be upfront. Talk about stereotyping! Implicit in this is a semantic distortion that "garuwalleh" can only be effeminate and nothing to do with the pettiness/bitchiness men can equally engage in. Explicitly, however, it just goes about telling you how deeply ingrained male domination and aesthetic disdain for equality/partnership with our sisters is in society, especially African ones. I'm not going to hide behind the old hat that i'm merely reflecting society's deeply ingrained prejudices. I will, however, seize this opportune moment to retract the statement - out of our respect for our women folk. And i apologise for any offense it might have caused. You wouldn't by any chance mention this to someone else you know?
