I do agree with your standpoint but education should be a perequisite to the struggle. whenever women accross the world will have the same opportunitie like men to attend school, you will see that the change will occur by itself.I am pretty optimistic. Till then, we should fight along with them to improve their status in the society and educate the men accordingly to women rights. Women all over the world keep up the good work and do enjoy your day /Chakys Yusupha Jow <[log in to unmask]> wrote: In a message dated 3/8/2001 4:06:25 AM US Mountain Standard Time, [log in to unmask] writes: > There are no guarantees that empowering women will alleviate the repression > of > women in our society. While women have an obligation to also empower themselves through various means etc, it is also up to the fathers, religious leaders (imams etc) and community leaders etc to help in this process. I believe the process will have to be undertaken jointly by both sexes for inroads to be made towards smashing this social injustice against women which undoubtredly exists in The Gambia. No pun intended but as a Gambian who closely observed the situation while there, I could not help but add an alternative point of view to your perspective.
