Gambia-l,

 

this is partly in response to an earlier piece on the NIA and political terror.  I agree with Joe Sambou on the perils of fearing the APRC thugs to the point of ensuring their continued domination of The Gambia.  I was merely sounding the alarm given the information at hand.  I am taking ACTION as someone suggested.  I am not standing idly by just watching the APRC agents pick up people.  I gather information and disseminate some of it to good folks like you.

 

On another matter, I dont spend much time any more comparing Jawara to Jammeh.  Its a waste of valuable time.  Jawara was corrupt to the core, and Jammeh is worse.  Jawara did lock up and intimidate some opponents, and Jammeh has killed many (including children) and will continue to do so.  Jawara is history (out of power for good), and Jammeh is hanging on for life if possible (and may be his life).  Given these facts, we should deal with getting the clown out of power and putting a far better regime in our country instead of rewriting history or defending murderers.

BTW, I traveled from the Casamance on Thursday and witnessed something I found very remarkable.  A Gambian driver navigates his way through very rough roads, and then some smooth driving for about 20 minutes.  Then he realizes that a Senegalese worker was making improvements to the road, through clearing and paving.  He stops, greets him, then hands him some money as a token of his appreciation. All of the passengers cheered, and the journey continued. What a model for good neighborliness.
