Culled from Clari World NG ************ BANJUL, July 11 (AFP) - The leader of Gambia's main opposition United Democratic Party described as ridiculous Wednesday the fact that the country's electoral authorities do not have a voting system for expatriate nationals. Ousainou Darboe was speaking after the country's independent electoral commission said it had insufficient financial and logistical means to include Gambians living abroad on electoral lists. The commission at the end of last month finished adding around 500,000 people to electoral lists ahead of a presidential election due to take place in October and legislative polls in January. An estimated 100,000 Gambian nationals live abroad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html You may also send subscription requests to [log in to unmask] if you have problems accessing the web interface and remember to write your full name and e-mail address. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
