A four-week training Workshop on Study Technology a new learning method for teachers in the country has been opened by the Secretary of State for Education Ann Therese Ndong-Jatta at the Gambia College, in Brikama. The workshop which ends on August 16th this year will discuss the work of an American Researcher L. Ron Hubbard, about how to learn and apply the knowledge from learning activities. These include the understanding of concepts and ideas, how to overcome learning difficulties with ease as well as the application of the knowledge gained. Other activities include the setting of standards and monitoring achievement targets, application of information technology as well as decentralization and community empowerment in education. Study Technology will also help children to learn and use knowledge to improve physical, social, economic, moral and spiritual conditions for the creation of a better condition of living in society. The first phase of the programme target 6,000 teachers in public schools from the basic to the secondary level, while the second phased would incorporate the private and tertiary institutions. The Secretary of State Ann Therese Ndong-Jatta urged teachers at the seminar to discover the study technology initiative which will help them to boost quality education in the Gambia. She expressed the hope that the introduction of study technology in all schools in the country will open a new path towards improving the quality of education and enhance greater personal freedom and empowerment in learning and the application of knowledge.
