Tuesday, August 28, 2001 Tuesday, August 28, 2001 SEDAT JOBE RESIGNS by Ebrima Colley Mercy Eze Momodou Lamin Sedat Jobe, Gambia's secretary of state for foreign affairs for the last three and a half years has resigned from his post effective Monday, August 27, 2001. A government press release stated that Mr Jobe tendered his resignation yesterday and it was accepted by President Jammeh in accordance with section 71(4) of the constitution of The Gambia. Sources also disclosed that the former secretary of state for foreign affairs, Mr Baboucarr Blaise Jagne, who is currently serving as Gambia's Ambassador to the United Nations is being widely tipped as a replacement. No official reason was forward by Mr Jobe for resigning. When contacted by the Daily Observer over the phone, Dr Jobe remarked: "I have nothing to confirm about, you can contact the secretary general, Office of the President." A cultural adviser at Unesco's regional office, Dakar, for many years, Jobe was appointed Gambia's Foreign Secretary on January 19, 1998.
