Mr. Sanneh, please extend my heartfelt congratulations to your daughter and the rest of the family. This is indeed great news. Your daughter did what family, friends and society required of her and she got what she deserved. This is just the beginning. I am confident that if she continues to follow your footsteps, she will reach greater heights. Like Ms. Joh said, you are a great role model for all young Gambians. I know that you are proud of your daughter for her tremendous achievements. But I am sure you will be prouder to know how hard it was for her to get what she got. The exams and the clearance you mentioned was part of the struggle. But what is perhaps more impressive is the fact that the young lady (because you are NOT an old man) joined the U.S. civil service at this stage of the history of the Bush Administration. Washington, DC is very chaotic nowadays. Most government hiring was stalled; because the young Administration was mainly focusing on political appointees. It was against this tough background that your daughter achieved what I would term a feat. I know people that were offered positions prior to the U.S. elections. They are still waiting for confirmation of their appointments. Sure your mentoring helped. The fact that the young lady also went to prestigious universities (the likes of Bill Clinton go to) also helped. But she must be someone with extraordinary talent to have landed the job the time she did. I join others and pray that she has an illustrious career with the State Department. Congratulations again.
