Can anyone confirmed this story culled from www.gambianet.com about the ex president Jawara back home? Mose. FOREIGN MINISTER RESIGNS Posted Wednesday, August 29, 2001 by Editor One of the most articulate Foreign Ministers in the sub-region, Gambian born Sadack Diop has resigned from the government of President Yayah Jammeh few days ago. Reports monitored here by this press say the former minister tendered his letter of resignation in protest over the deportation of the Deputy British High Commissioner to the Gambia by President Yayah Jammeh out of the country. Official government sources say the British envoy was deported because he was seen in a press conference organised by the opposition parties in the capital Banjul, early last week. Gambia political commentors say the resignation of Mr. Diop is big blow to President Jammeh as the former has been one of his most respected and articulate ministers. Diop was among several diplomats and fellow Gambians who openly apposed President Yayah Jammeh's deportation order. The British government has called upon President Jammeh to reverse his decision as there is nothing wrong in the envoy attending a press conference organized by the opposition but the government views it as an interference into the internal affairs of the Gambia as an independent sovereign State. Meanwhile, former exiled President Sir Duda Jawara has returned home and joined forces with other opposition parties to remove President Yayah Jammeh in the schedule election late this year. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html You may also send subscription requests to [log in to unmask] if you have problems accessing the web interface and remember to write your full name and e-mail address. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
