Grand Mosque Imam calls for restraint.
IN MAKKAH
The Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah yesterday called on the United States and its allies to show restraint and not start a war over the
Sept.11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
Addressing more than 500,000 worshipers assembled at the mosque for the Friday prayers, Sheikh Saleh ibn Humaid warned world leaders against adopting policies that pit civilizations, religions and races against each other.“Logic dictates that at a time of crisis the afflicted nation must heed the advice of its friends and ... be prepared to hear the truth even if it is bitter and to accept advice even if painful,” he said in his Friday sermon.“The world is experiencing a phenomenon which has robbed people of sleep. It is the issue of terrorism and corruption on Earth,” Sheikh Saleh said. “This issue calls for new policies, not new wars,” the Islamic scholar said.“The solution needed is one that is far away from the mentality of revenge, killing or destruction, and the one that does not stir conflict between civilizations and religions,” he said. “What is required now is a comprehensive vision aimed at finding a solution to the problem, not the creation of new problems that could turn out to be more complex,” he said.Sheikh Saleh called on the international community to find a just solution to the Palestinian problem. “State terrorism is the most dangerous of them all, because it is well-organized and practiced by governmental agencies and forces,” he said, alluding to the brutal Israeli military campaign against unarmed Palestiniancivilians.“Israel is a living example for terrorism as it practices the most brutal crimes and violates human rights, including the right to live, by bringing about destruction and forcing people to leave their homeland,” he explained.
The Holy Qur’an says:

Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard
their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and
guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands their fathers their husbands' fathers their sons their husbands' sons their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or the slaves whom their right hands possess or male servants free of physical needs or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike
their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believe! turn ye all together towards Allah that ye may attain Bliss. (Surah An-Nur, Ayat 30,31)
Commentary by A. Yusuf .Ali
2983 The rule of modesty applies to men as well as women. A brazen stare by a man at a woman (or even at a man) is a breach of refined manners. Where sex is concerned, modesty is not only "good form": it is not only to guard the weaker sex, but also to guard the spiritual good of the stronger sex. (24.30)
2984 The need for modesty is the same in both men and women. But on account of the differentiation of the sexes in nature, temperaments, and social life, a greater amount of privacy is required for women than for men, especially in the matter of dress and the uncovering of the bosom. (24.31)
2985 Zinat means both natural beauty and artificial ornaments. I think both are implied here, but chiefly the former. The woman is asked not to make a display of her figure except to the following classes of people: (1) her husband, (2) her near relatives whom a certain amount of neglige is permissible; (3) her women, (4) slaves, male and female, as they would be in constant attendance; but this item would now be blank, with the abolition of slavery; (5) men who are free from sexual desire and who usually frequent the houses; and (6) infants or
small children before they get a sense of sex. Cf. also xxxiii. 59. (24.31)
2986 It is one of the tricks of showy or unchaste women to tinkle their ankle ornaments, to draw attention to themselves, (24.31)
2987 While all these details of the purity and good form of domestic life are being brought to our attention, we are clearly reminded that the chief object we should hold in view is our spiritual welfare. All our brief life on this earth is a probation, and we must make our individual, domestic, and social life all contribute to our holiness, so that we can get the real success and bliss which is the aim of our spiritual endeavor. (24.31)

For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for devout men
and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves),for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward. (Surah Al-Ahzab, Ayat 35)

Cast down will be (their owners') eyes.(Surah An-Nazi’at, Ayat 9)
Commentary by A. Yusuf .Ali
Similarly all eyes will be cast down:those of the blessed ones in humble modesty, and those of the Rejecters of Allah, in utter humiliation, sorrow, and shame, for their arrogance and insolence in their probationary life.

Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt
see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer) seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Torah; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade then makes it strong; it then becomes thick and it stands on its own stem (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result it fills the Unbelievers with rage at him.Allah haspromised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds Forgiveness and a great Reward.(Surah Al-Fat-h. Ayat 29).
Commentary by A. Yusuf .Ali
4913 The devotees of Allah wage unceasing war against evil, for themselves, and for others; but to their own brethren in faith-especially the weaker ones- they are mild and compassionate: they seek out every opportunity to sympathise with them and help them. (48.29)
4914 Their humility is before Allah and His Apostle and all who have authority from Allah, but they yield no power or pomp, nor do they worship worldly show or glitter.Nor is their humility before Allah a mere show for men. (48.29)
4915 The traces of their earnestness and humility are engraved on their faces, i.e., penetrate their inmost being, the face being the outward sign of the inner man. If we take it in its literal sense, the traces might mean the marks left by repeated prostration on their foreheads. Moreover, a good man's face alone shows in him the grace and light of Allah; he is gentle, kind and forbearing, ever helpful, relying on Allah and possessing a blessed Peace and Calmness (Sakina, xlviii. 26) that can come from no other source. (48.29)
4916 In the Book of Moses, which is now found in a corrupt form in the
Pentateuch, the posture of humility in prayer is indicated by prostration: e.g., Moses and Aaron "fell upon their faces", Num. xvi. 22. (48.29)
4917 The similitude in the Gospel is about how the good seed is sown and grows gradually, even beyond the expectation of the sower: "the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how; for the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear": Mark. iv. 27-28. Thus Islam was preached by the holy Prophet; the seed seemed to human eyes lost in the ground; but it put forth its shoot, and grew, and became strong, until it was able to stand on its own legs, and its worst enemies recognised its existence and its right to live. Note how much more complete the
parable is in the Qur-an. The mentality of the sowers of the seed is expressed in beautiful terms: its growth and strength filled them "with wonder and delight." (48.29)
4918 I construe the particle "li" as expressing not the object, but the result. The result of the wonderful growth of Islam in numbers and strength was that its enemies were confounded, and raged furiously within their own minds, a contrast to the satisfaction, wonder, and delight of the Prophet and his Companions. The pronoun in "rage at them" of course refers to the Prophet and his Companions,
and goes back to the earlier words, "on their faces" etc. (48.29)
Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) Sayings :(Hadith)
We were with the Prophet while we were young and had no wealth whatever. So Allah's Apostle said, "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power."
(Narrated by Abdullah( R ), Sahih Al-Bukhari 7.4).
Allah's Apostle said, "The main source of disbelief is in the east. Pride and arrogance are characteristics of the owners of horses and camels, and those Bedouins who are busy with their camels and pay no attention to Religion; while modesty and gentleness are the characteristics of the owners of sheep."
(Narrated by Abu Hurairah ( R ), Sahih Al-Bukhari 4.520).
The Prophet said, "Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya (This term "Haya" covers a large number of concepts which are to be taken together; amongst them are self respect, modesty, bashfulness, and scruple, etc.) is a part of faith." (Narrated by Abu Hurairah ( R ), Sahih Al-Bukhari 1.8).
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, passed by a man who was chiding his brother about modesty. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Leave him. Modesty is part of iman." (Al-Muwatta Hadith).
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "Modesty is part of faith and faith is in Paradise, but obscenity is a part of hardness of heart and hardness of heart is in Hell."
Transmitted by Ahmad and Tirmidhi. (Narrated by AbuHurayrah, Al-Tirmidhi Hadith, Hadith 5077).
A woman called Umm Khallad came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) while she was veiled. She was searching for her son who had been killed (in the battle) Some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her: You have come here asking for your son while veiling your face? She said: If I am afflicted with the loss of my son, I shall not suffer the loss of my modesty. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: You will get the reward of two martyrs for your son. She asked: Why is that so, Apostle of Allah? He replied: Because the
people of the Book have killed him. (Narrated by Thabit ibn Qays, Sunan of Absu-Dawood. Hadith 2482).
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Indecency disfigures everything and modesty (Haya') enhances the charm of everything.
Transmitted by Tirmidhi. (Narrated by Anas Ibn Malik, Al-Tirmidhi Hadith, Hadith 1741).

VOLUNTARY FASTING DURING THE MONTH OF SHABAN.
Dear brothers and sisters, the month of Shaban is upon us,starting on the 18th October,(the Date with Destiny in the Gambia),it was the practice of the prophet(may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon HiM)and his devoted companions(Sahaba)[May Allah be pleased with them all) to fast during the month as it is evidenced by the following ahadith:
1.A'isha(RA) said,'I have never seen the Messenger of God fasting the whole of the month except Ramadan. And I have not seen him fasting more days in the month than Shaban.
2.Usama Ibn Zaid(RA) once said,'O messenger of God,I have not seen you fasting in any month( apart from Ramadan) as you fast in the month of Shaban'.The Prophet(PBUH) replied,'that is a month which people forget between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which deeds are raised up to the Lord of the Worlds.I like my deeds to be raised up so that I am fasting.

N/B:::))) special fasting in the middle of the Shaban(15th Shaban) thinking that it has special virtue over the rest of the month, has no sound evidence to back it up in the Sunnah. You can fast for any number of days,or the whole month.

NAYYAH(INTENTION TO KEEP FAST):

" I RESOLVE TO KEEP FAST TOMORROW IN THE MONTH OF .......".
PRAYER TO END FAST:
" O ALLAH,I HAVE FASTED FOR THEE,HAVE BELIEVED IN THEE,HAVE RELIED IN THEE AND HAVE BROKEN FAST BY THY PROVISION,SO ACCEPT IT FROM ME."
ALL RULES RELATING TO FASTING DURING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN IS EQUALLY APPLICABLE HERE.
MAY ALLAH SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA GIVE US THE WILL POWER TO FAST AND ACCEPT OUR HUMBLE SUBMISSION TO HIS WAY OF LIFE.AMIN.
