I wish to first of all congratulate the ACE Campaign Manager, Femi Peters. He is doing a tremendous job in his quest to elect PRESIDENT DARBOE. Come October 19, 2001, Mr. Peters’ hard work would have paid tremendous dividends. I was particularly glad about the way Mr. Peters and his able campaign staff handled the APRC and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in their disinformation campaign about the source of the violence on the campaign trail. Mr. Peters clearly made the DIG of Police to swallow the garbage he was trying to peddle saying that the Alliance supporters were responsible for the violence in the country. Of course that is a blatant LIE. And Mr. Peters helped put the record straight. To this day there are NO reports that thugs attempted to torch the premises of APRC stalwarts like they attempted to torch Shygle Nyassi’s and Waa Juwara’a house. No Gambian politician has gone to an Opposition stronghold and have them driven out of the place by unruly thugs, like the Jolas in Foni are doing to Opposition politicians. I respectfully urge Mr. Peters to address this matter with the IEC too. If the Jolas in Foni do NOT want to attend Opposition rallies, let them stay in their huts. They do NOT have to come out and throw stones at people. These people do NOT want to hear truth above their native son (Yaya). The truth of the matter is that their native son hijacked our country and ordered the slaughter of our children. Gambians do NOT hold Jolas responsible for Yaya’s despicable behavior. Jolas in Foni should NOT therefore take ownership of those despicable behavior and NOT extend their hands to other Gambians. Why should real Gambians be deprived the right to hold political rallies in Foni where most people are from Casamance and are NOT real Gambians? The IEC need to address this issue and ensure that the bad apples in Foni that are promoting this thuggery should be put behind bars. It is wrong for the police to go to Foni and escort Gambian politicians out of villages. The police should be arresting the thugs that are depriving Gambian politicians of their democratic and constitutional rights. I hope Mr. Peters addresses this issue with the IEC with a matter of urgency. ALL those thugs in Foni ambushing politicians should be put behind bars. The IEC and the police should do their job. Just recently we got reports that Senegalese soldiers were seizing Gambian voters’ cards from Senegalese Jolas in the border with Casamance. This job should have been done by the IEC and the Gambian police. We have very good people in Foni. They MUST NOT let a few bad apples led by APRC thugs and former soldiers taint their character. As a matter of urgency, the Alliance Campaign team should also ask Gabriel Roberts to revisit the issue of the counting centers. Gabriel Roberts’ so-called UNILATERAL DECISION about 20 or so counting centers is unacceptable. The man CANNOT guarantee us that the votes will be safely transported. The Opposition should DEMAND counting-on-the-spot. As Mr. Peters knows better than I do, Yaya is FINISHED. The Alliance has won on the ISSUES. I just saw on Gambian newspapers that there are still people in the country that have NOT sold their groundnuts from last season. Those people do NOT include the people that are clinging on to worthless promissory notes. These notes came after we challenged Yaya stooges here on G_L and they (APRC government and supporters) promised people that there will be ‘no credit buying’. We knew then and we know now that the vermin were LYING. All they do is make EMPTY PROMISES. This is just touching on one issue. Forget the hospitals without medicine. Forget the schools without teachers and supplies. Forget the millions of dollars Yaya stole from us. Clearly, Yaya CANNOT win the elections if he does not steal it. Remember the vermin indemnified the trigger-happy thugs that massacred our children. Yaya has no intention whatsoever of ensuring that justice is done in that case and numerous other human rights violations in the country. Now that PPP folks have shown the public that Yaya’s so-called projects were stolen from the old regime, the vermin are butt naked. They have NOTHING to show. Commonsense tells us that someone who in 1994 could NOT even be elected as a High School class president, will NOT be elected to the highest office in the land seven years down the line after he ordered the MASSACRE of our children. In 1996 he succeeded to steal the election by among other things banning politicians that could cause havoc to him. In 1996, he also did NOT have a record to run on and it was easy to make FALSE and EMPTY promises and get away with it. 2001 is NOT 1994. Now Yaya has a record and politicians like OJ are on the campaign trail. Yaya is FINISHED. All the Opposition need to do now is to ensure that Gabriel Roberts does NOT help Yaya steal the election. I hope the same vigilance Mr. Peters has shown to the DIG of Police and Gabriel Roberts (in the past) will be replicated during the next few days. Foni MUST be opened to ALL Gambian politicians. The counting centers have to be increased. The Alliance should be present when results are faxed to Gabriel Roberts at the IEC headquarters. I again commend Femi Peters for the tremendous job he is doing. Rather than making silly and goofy predictions, the man has his eye on the ball. ELECT PRESIDENT DARBOE.
