Buharry, I will add my voice to everyone else’s that you have shown that the mind ought to be independent in light of what is going on around us. The actions and pronouncements by many a nation surrounding the incidents of September 11 – a real tragedy in the every sense of the word – is marred with lies, contempt and deceit. What many people fail to understand is that these incidents have paved the way for a certain group with a cruel imperialistic agenda to have justification of whatever action they might take strengthen their grip on the innocent. You have frankly outlined the hypocrisy of the so-called friends of America but failed to touch on the core of this group – Saudi Arabia and others like Yemen and Kuwait. The Saudis’ role in the events leading to and on September 11 should be closely examined with an open mind. A nation that has one of the most corrupt dictatorial monarchies in the world being explicitly exempted from the Bush doctrine of “you’re either with us or with the terrorist”. Where does Saudi Arabia lie on the scale? Remember that 15 out of the 19 high jackers are Saudis. Moreover, it is alleged that during the Mujahidin war against the Soviet Union, the Saudi government was matching every million dollars contributed by the CIA for the Mujahidin. It is also alleged that 80% of Al-Qaeda funds come from wealthy Saudi executives. There is an extensive story in this weeks News Week magazine outlining the role of the Saudis. These are the real hypocrites of today’s’ world. They know that Bin Laden and his group are much more disgruntled with them than they are with the Americans. What do they do, try to buy out the terrorists to target others instead of the Saudi Royal family. What have they contributed to the “war against terrorism” so far? The United States are not making it known that the Saudis are not very cooperative with their efforts and yet they will not be tagged as terrorist sympathizers. Why? Because of US interest in maintaining the supply line for 10% of its oil consumption and the apparent personal ties between George Bush senior and the Saudi Royal family. Thanks for a stimulating analysis of the players. Abdoulie A.
