Taiwan vice-president to visit Nicaragua, Paraguay, Gambia BBC Monitoring Service - United Kingdom; Dec 13, 2001 Text of report by Lilian Wu; carried in English by Taiwanese Central News Agency web site Taipei, 13 December: of China Vice-President Annette Lu will lead a delegation to visit Nicaragua to attend the inauguration of the Central American nation's president, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Thursday [13 December]. Ho Ching-shan, director of MOFA's Department of Central and South American Affairs, said Lu will attend the inauguration of Enrique Bolanos Geyer 4 January on behalf of President Chen Shui-bian. Lu will also visit Paraguay, an ROC ally in South America, whose vice-president, Julio Cesar Ramon Franco Gomez, extended the invitation to visit to Lu when he visited Taiwan in February this year. The itinerary is still not finalized, Ho added. Ho also said that the United States has agreed to allow Lu to transit there. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tien Hung-mao confirmed Wednesday that Lu will leave next Tuesday for The Gambia, the ROC's ally in West Africa, to attend the West African state's presidential inauguration on behalf of President Chen.
