Most visits to the Gambia are trouble-free but visitors should be aware that medical facilities are not of a similar standard to the UK and that malaria is endemic throughout the year.

In the run up to the National Assembly elections on 17 January 2001, there may be marches and demonstrations. British nationals should keep in touch with their tour operators or the British High Commission for the latest advice.
