Gassama, thanks for your input and my condolences to the families of the berieved. Historically, governments in The Gambia have always been reactionary. We have had ferry problems all throughout the reign of the first republic and now the APRC. It was not just yeaterday that we had only one Ferry doing the donkey job. This has been the case at regular intervals. The fact that the Government relied on only one ferry all this time says a lot about their planning and vision. What happens if this ferry should go down any day? What happen to the idea forecasting? We have a disaster, then all of a sudden came this idea of ferries and docks commissioned for some unknown future. This is unacceptable and the people should demand better service from those whom they elected because that is the only way they can get a semblance of decent service. On your news of two radio stations being added to our air waves by France (at least one of them), sounds more like additional state run broadcast avenues, while the Government muzzles other independant-owned stations. Do we need the government to have three radio stations? What are these stations going to do that GRTS could not do with one station? Why would the Government venture into the commercial radio business, when we have commercial stations that have already excess capacity? Could'nt we have diverted these resources to other pressing areas? We need to move away from these feel-good dinasours projects that is the trademark of Africa since independance. Reminds me of the hair braiding ventures in Chicago. Whereas they could have been more sparsely located throughout the city, no, you go to a street like 79th street and see almost 20 shops in a 10 block strip. Most of the time you see them just siting watching TV or are busy waging a price war on each other. Everyone ends up the looser. Let me know your thoughts on the points raised.
