The Office of the Ombudsman today Wednesday, February 27, handed over its first Report (since its inception in 1999) to the President of the Republic, Dr. Alhaji Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh.

The Report covers all cases of mismanagement, abuse of office, maladministration, discrimination and injustice from the year 1999-2000 that were reported to the Ombudsman Office for investigation.

It also spells out all complaints, lodged by the public to the office of the Ombudsman whether successfully investigated or those deserving further investigation.

According to the Ombudsman, Mr Sam J.O. Sarr, the Report contains over 105 cases of which 80% have been investigated and completed.

On behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Sam Sarr thanked the President for living up to his word and giving the Ombudsman Office a free hand in all investigations of complaints reported to the Office.

Accompanying the Ombudsman were his two Deputies, Mrs. Joanna Mbye and Mr. Junaidi Jallow; the Executive Director, Mr. Ebrahim Low and the Communications Officer, Mr. Ebou Faye.

In another development the Attorney General and Secretary of State Mr. Joseph Henry Joof, on behalf of the President, later handed over a brand new Mitsubishi Pickup vehicle to the Ombudsman. The vehicle is for use as a utility vehicle during Mass Sensitisation of the Gambian Community about the functions and benefits of an Ombudsman Office.

There is a time in the life of every problem when it is big enough to see, yet small enough to solve. -Mike- Levitt-
