Over D3m worth of items donated to Bansang Hospital, others

A German National, Gehord Limb, on Tuesday March, 5, 2002, donated medical and other items including office equipment and clothing materials among other things to Bansang Hospital and Kombo Manduarr Clinic worth over D3 million dalasis at a ceremony held at the Banjul Ports. The donated items were received on behalf of the Bansang Hospital and Manduarr Clinic respectively by the secretary of state for Hjealth, Dr. Yankuba Gassama, which comprises drugs, syringes, bandages, bed pans, feeding bottles, wheel chairs, bicycles, type writers and an ambulance, among others.

In handling the items, Dr. Limb said the donation was made possible through the support of friends and well wishers in Germany and hoped the items would be put into good use. The chief executive of Bansang hospital, Dr. Musa Jobarteh, said Mr. Limb's support would greatly contribute in the eradication of dysentery in the rural areas of The Gambia. He said the donation will facilitate government policy for the delivery of affordable health care, especially in the provinces. In receiving the items, the secretary of state for health, Dr. Gassama, said the donation would go a long way in ensuring effective health care services in the Central River Upper River Divisions respectively. The ceremony was attended by officials of the state department of health and was chaired by the permanent secretary for health, Mr. Abdoulie Mam Njie.
