Recently i came across a poetry book(SUN WOMAN) by a brother called Kiluanji Kush. He is the first to introduce the Black literary art style of writing praise-poems of love called 'ETU'. The subject matter is represented by the complete features and parts of the human body linked together with the incorporeal substance of spirit or mind to form one single cohesive whole of a living being. That was the author speaking! It is so beautiful... With copyrights and legal tussles i have chosen ONLY five poems to honor the African generosity! I hope brother Kush will see it as an advert for his very wonderful piece of work. On the other hand, à la Fidel Castro, knowledge should be free and shared! Fact is i think it is already out there in the net. Please buy the book! In his introduction, Kush wrote: "...let me clarify to the reader my position in relation to the woman I dedicate this book. I would like to make it clear that first, my concerted effort to compile such a work simply sprang from no other intention other than the natural awareness, devotion and the innocent urge of a heart captured by the magical wonder of love. And secondly, by the inspiration of poetry not only as art, but also as my favourite passion." Too much work and no play...That is my perception of Gambia-L! I think we need to have some fun and laughter even when faced with the gargantuan task of bringing our nation on desired paths. For brothers like Dawda Jallow(who love and write poetry). To the rest, as we bring Jemus and each other down let us take a break and enjoy the SUN WOMAN series of 5 chosen poems(a celebration of ourselves) by our brother Mr.. Kiluangi Kush. SUN WOMAN (prelude poem) If love in its multi-dimensional sense Extends to mean the bliss of life Inspired by human struggle With passion to survive Then this love is what my heart Declares for you, Meaning your struggle Has never been in vain... For prophecy of earth is you The truth of awakening You who have survived The rust of seasons In all debacles of time... I salute your majestic presence That brings to light The unconditional passion For loving and beauty Even in this time austere That has lost its charm. Let me dream then by your side In the glory of sunrise sun That burns still ever bold To sustain the deeper affection And your vigour lucent like fire Expressive of strength/when you say: "Do not sing me solace There's no time for self-pity Save your tears for the meek Fear has no place in the heart of will, Just sing me a poem of love Not to (sentimentally) adorn my pain But to strengthen my desire to live Because destiny persists to call Transcending loss, reaching glory Re-procreating an urge to dream With strength and dignity That no pain can kill Woman Let me sing then this song of love With cordial support of your dignity That flames fortitude In this most stubborn will Refusing to die (For righteousness insists to live) And your heart leans On this most resolute resolve To survive Refusing to submit - For the sleepless fire in you Burns to move, following free The sheen of destiny... I strike you my enamoured heart With passion of verse In praise and all rhythms of love To always induce your courage For which I sing: SUNWOMAN... Life has a tree in you The tree has a bird in you The bird has the wings in you And the wings have the wind in you And with the wind in you Fly again my love! Oh, how sweet This indomitable will to live! _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
