Gassama, the dollar was between D8.50 and D9 in 1994. Central Bank figures will tell you this. It is the £ that was D13 in 1994. As of this morning the Dalasi to £ in the streets was D28.75 , in some places it was D29. This explains the rising price of consumer goods. The $ was D19.35 this morning. Visit the financial services web site or the economic intelligence web page and you will see the performance of our economy. Not too good a prediction. What happened since July 22, 1994 when the Dalasi stood at roughly D8.75 per US Dollar?"<BR><BR>This is absolutely incorrect, at least from the parallel market in Sere Kunda or London corner (Bambo Junction). I do not know where you got your figures from but I can categorically tell you that the Dalasi to Dollar rate pre-1994 coupe, was more than D13.50 and is less than D19.00, at least by this weekend. I know this 'cause I only changed some Dollars on Saturday and also changed Dollars before and immediately after the coupe. I can fully remember when the former AFPRC regime increased airport tax to $10.00, D150.00 or the equivalent of ten pounds sterling in other foreign currencies. Therefore the Dollar changing for less than D10.00 in 1994 is not correct and the Dollar changing for more than D20.00 right now is also not correct.</P></DIV> <DIV></DIV>Have a good day, Gassa.<BR><BR><BR> <DIV><FONT color=#3333ff face="Courier New, Courier, Monospace" size=4>There is a time in the life of every problem when it is big enough to see, yet small enough to solve. -Mike- Levitt-</FONT></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV></div><br clear=all><hr>Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at <a href='http://g.msn.com/1HM300901/155'>http://explorer.msn.com</a>.<br></html> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
