LAGOS, July 17 (AFP) - Two Nigerian policemen have been charged with murder following the killing of a university student which triggered a violent protest, state radio reported Wednesday. Policemen shot dead a student of the Federal University of Technology last week, triggering a riot in which Niger State's deputy governor was assaulted and abducted for several hours. The student was the fourth to die in a recent string of police killings which has generated revulsion and anger across Nigeria. The two police sergeants were Tuesday charged with culpable homicide before a magistrate's court in Minna, Niger State's capital and the scene of the shooting, Radio Nigeria said. The court adjourned the case until August 13 and ordered that the policemen be remanded in custody. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
