Having problem sending the attachment through G-L. Beran G-L & The Post, The Steering Committee decided to call for an all Gambian convention as per the attach minutes of 8/4/02 meeting. The GLC draft constitution and articles of association are being scan for electronic storage and retrieval.It will be posted when the scanning is done. Thanks Beran STEERING COMMITTEE MINUTES The Steering Committee met at Dr. Sukai Prom-Jackson’s residence on 8/4/02. The meeting started at 7pm and adjourned at 9:30pm. Present at the meeting were Pa Bubacarr Jallow, Dr. Sukai Prom-Jackson, Veronica Njie, Beran Jeng, and Sheikh Jallow. Other committee members not present at this meeting were Karamba Touray, Ebrima Weyeh Jobe, Soffie Ceesay, Haddy Jallow-Jeng, Haddy Badjan, Lena Manga, and Musa Jawara. The members present agreed to the following: ·Establish a time limit for the Steering Committee’s overall duties ·Hold an ALL GAMBIAN CONVENTION to nominate and elect the executive body ·Clearly define the nomination and selection process of the executive body before the convention is held ·Establish a transition phase after the convention to ensure continuity of functions ·Establish a board that would represent all dimensions – educational, religious/spiritual, cultural, social, sports etc. ·Karamba Touray to continue with the contacts ·Members took up assignments to contact individuals and groups across the States as follows: Sheikh Jallow …………….Atlanta, DC Metro area (Washington, DC, MD & VA), and to follow up on Beran’s contacts Pa Bubacarr Jallow ……….Rhode Island, Connecticut, Boston, and New York Veronica Njie ……………..Chicago, Midwestern states, and Miami Beran Jeng ………………..Atlanta, Gambia L, and all cyber forums The Steering Committee members expressed the need to ensure that ALL Gambians, or as many as realistically possible, are actively involved in working to establish the umbrella organization. They also expressed the need to contact and get INTEREST, MEMBERSHIP, AND COMMITMENT from Gambians, individuals and Gambian organizations/groups, formal and informal. The members acknowledged that it would be essential to respect and use our (Gambians’) inherent diverse views to effectively and successfully establish and implement the umbrella organization. To this end, they suggest… ·That Gambians and friends of Gambians freely forward this information to any and every Gambian as they see fit, ·Provide suggestions/recommendations for the following - ·Ways to contact individuals and organizations/groups to communicate information about the umbrella organization, preferably email addresses for cost effectiveness, ·Ways to enhance our communication processes to propagate sisterhood and brotherhood among us, Input for the draft **“Articles of Incorporation” for the umbrella organization based on the following guideline - Vision Purposes Membership Non-political position Selection criteria for the board of directors Nomination and selection process ·Also, input for the draft **“Constitution” using the guideline that follow: Mission Criteria to nominate the executive body Roles and responsibilities of each of the members (executive) Membership fees/dues (individuals/organizations) Method of operation **Please see attached samples for both synthesized after the general Gambian meeting held by the GLC · Inform and encourage organizing committees in the different states to include discussion about the umbrella organization on their agenda using the information from the minutes to maintain consistency (e.g. Chicago and Miami will be holding their annual programs in September). The committee members request that individuals and organizations/groups submit all their suggestions/recommendations/comments LATEST SEPTEMBER 30, 2002. They propose to hold an ALL GAMBIAN CONVENTION by the end of October, but solicit suggestions from ALL with regard to the date. To expedite the process, they agreed to hold the convention latest November 30, 2002.
