Suku Singhateh Returns Home The Daily Observer (Banjul) NEWS October 21, 2002 Posted to the web October 21, 2002 Banjul Hon Suku Singhateh, National Assembly member for Lower Baddibu, returned home on Saturday from a business trip in Niger. In a press release issued yesterday, Hon Singhateh expressed shock and dismay on reports of his arrest in Niger. Below we reproduce the full text of the release: "I wish to announce my return to The Gambia on Saturday October 19, 2002 and I am shocked and dismayed to read in the local press that I was "in police custody" in Niger. "The fact of the matter is that the Niger authorities raided a hotel in which I was staying with some other guests staying in the same hotel. I am a holder of a service passport and the Niger authorities contacted Interpol to verify my credentials. This was done and I was released immediately with an apology by the Niger authorities. I will hold a press conference in the next few days to which the local press will be invited." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
