Mr. Samateh, The author apparently chose to cherry pick events that he deems useful to demonize Western hegemony in human history. He failed to acknowledge significant events since 1494 that has helped change the world. The institution of slavery and genocide is not by any means a Western invention... but the universal abolishment of chattel slavery is a unique Western endeavor. The establishment of international law with far reaching global appeal is also a Western invention. The US in particular since WWI created a myriad of intricate legal instruments that guaranteed the creation of nation-states, undermined colonialism and assured the right of self-determination for weak former colonies such as the Gambia. Ever since the world has evolved, and we have seen the end of Apartheid, segregation and the tremendous successes of the Civil Rights movement in the US. I belief all this couldn’t have happened if the US had any imperial ambitions. Dr. Natambu is absolutely wrong. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To Search in the Gambia-L archives, go to: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/CGI/wa.exe?S1=gambia-l To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
