Yaya Jammeh who in 1994 inidicated that even ten years is too long is intoxicated and blinded by power and he get liars like Joseph Joof and a sorry and rubber stamp national assembly whose members feel their longevity is assured by passing anything that the executive presents. I put it to Mr. Joof that it is a balatant lie that abolishng the second round voting would ensure peace and stability. We are surrounded by conflicts yet the leadership remains complacent and think that they can get away with whatever they want. I suggest that the oppostion mount a legal challenge to the latest assult on Gambians by the criminal gang. Please read through; Constitutional Amendment For Peace – SoS Joof The amendment to Section 48 of the 1997 Constitution abolishing second round voting is geared towards the maintenance of peace and stability in the country, according to the Attorney General and Secretary of State for Justice, Joseph Henry Joof. SoS Joof made those remarks on Monday at the National Assembly during his introduction of the amendment bill which was unanimously passed into law by the majority of the Assembly members. He said the decision to amend that section of the constitution followed a thorough study of the situation in other countries. A second round voting, in his view, is not practised in big democracies and The Gambia wants to follow the same norm so as to cut cost of elections and to united the people. The NRP leader and member of Upper Saloum, Hamat Bah, dismissed the notion that the amendment is geared towards the maintenance of peace and stability. "This is the opposite because it could be dangerous to have a minority president in office, and against the wishes of the majority of the electorate. The fact is that the APRC government already knows that they have miserably failed the Gambian people and have lost the support of the electorate and that is why they want to manipulate the process in order to stay in power," he alleged. Culled from Gambianet. ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Get the FREE Yahoo!
