Hi All: The brutal murder of Deyda Hydara has re-sparked an interest in some to at least start a dialogue again about creating a fund to assist the Independent media with their mounting financial obligations. Towards the end of 2003, a fund was created for that stated purpose. The goal was to have Gambians and Friends of Gambian contribute $1 per month thus eliminating a huge financial burden on any one individual. Those that couldn’t afford the $1 per month contribution had the opportunity to contribute any amount they could afford. Since that time, the total amount collected in the fund is $322. We, the contributors of the fund would like to transfer the custody of the funds to the GPU or it's designate in the US with one stipulation: The designated individual(s) agree to continue raising and managing the funds collected for the Independent media until it is deemed by all pertinent parties that a fund is no longer needed for the stated purpose. I would like to thank those who put this issue back on the table. Please take care… P.S. - Chris, can you forward this to the G-Talk and Post… ___________________________________________ Cynthia M.
