Invitation to Apply

 Applications are now being accepted for The Edward G. Njie Scholarship Fund. Information about eligibility and application forms can be obtained from the Department of State for Education office, a school near you, or visit the web site at www.theedwardgnjiescholarshipfund.org.

 

The Edward G. Njie Scholarship Fund is intended to provide Gambian students with educational and personal support on a "needs" basis. The Scholarship will provide qualified individuals with expenses related to these specific needs. The support is designed to encourage and support students who interested in pursuing their educational goals. It is open to students in Middle School to any educational level. Eligible applicants will be supported up to the end of their programs as long as they continue to pass their courses as stipulated by individual educational institutions. The number of awardees each year will depend on available funds.

 

The Fund will provide students with the opportunity to pursue their goals and support young minds that will help build the future of The Gambia.

 Application

Eligibility Criteria (Evidence of eligibility must be presented to qualify)

ü       Applicants must be Gambian students

ü       Must be enrolled or accepted at any PUBLIC educational institution in The Gambia

ü       It is open to students at Middle School to any educational level

ü       Parents'/household income MUST be less than D800.00 a month or D10,000.00 a year

ü       If there is a draw between applicants, academic merit will be assessed

ü       Applicants must present two (2) letters of recommendation attached to the application  one from a teacher and the other from someone other than a family member

ü       Relatives and family members of the late Edward G. Njie are NOT eligible to apply

ü       Submit half to one-page essay explaining why you are qualified to receive this award and indicate your future educational goals

 

Submission Deadline and Start Date of Funding

  • Applications will be accepted beginning May 1st  every year
  • Application deadline is on or before July 31st of every year
  • Applications will be evaluated in August and September of each year
  • Funds will be awarded every October for eligible students until they complete the program
  • Funds will cover expenses for the entire program the student is enrolled

1. Make three (3) copies of the application and send to:

2. Applications must be received by the due date for students to be eligible. Students are encouraged to get assistance from their teachers and parents/relatives to complete the application.

Please make your donations to the Fund. Help prepare future minds and Gambian leaders through this Scholarship Fund. No amount is too small.
