Hi!

The situation surrounding the NADD negotiations is very worrying. What is going on online is even more worrying given that it is seriously undermining not only the credibility of the party but also those who are going to stand on platforms to sell themselves to the Gambian populace. What the "shooting spree" going on does is give the APRC and its supporters ammunition to use against NADD come the election campaign. One is hurting one's cause when one's "enemies" or opponents praise or applaud one's actions or efforts. The gloating by APRC supporters here should serve as a reminder that maybe the time has come to take a different approach. Remember that the selection of the flag bearer is just one phase. After the dust settles and a leader is chosen, everyone is supposed to rally around that leader. Supporters of the various party leaders may have differences and that is granted given the different platforms and expectations. "Shooting" each other down is however less justifiable. What it also does is further deepen the divisions between the component members of NADD. The longer it goes on, the more difficult it will be for the various party members to sincerely stand together on one platform and sell a unity ticket.

It seems as if the negotiations are too focused on the issue of the flag bearer with the resultant failure to select one impinging on the success of the exercise. It is in this light that the negotiations need to be widened to include a future cabinet. If one party is given the flag bearer position, another should be given the vice presidency, finance, foreign affairs, agriculture, tourism portfolios and so on. This will ease the tension and reduce the feeling of totally winning or losing. It will create a compromise that will be beneficial to all. I therefore urge all concerned to consider this and make every effort to save this alliance. NADD is the only hope. None of the individual parties can win against the APRC. If this opportunity is lost, it will be devastating. Thanks and have a good day.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Buharry.
