> Sarjo Bayang draws the world's attention on the case and calls for charges

> Gambian authorities for the swiftest dispensation of proper justice and due
> financial compensation. *
> **
>
> Let all right thinking people place their hats in to ensure Fatou Jaw
> Manneh receives true justice and the most consoling compensation. Government
> of Gambia through its agents of oppression openly proved total unfairness
> and laming incompetence over the whole time in the matter of Fatou Jaw
> Manneh.
>
>
> In the beginning, Magistrate Buba Jawo declared his court's lack of
> competence to handle the preferred sedition case against Fatou Jaw Manneh.
> His reason convincingly rest on grounds of jurisdiction. That was the most
> decisive moment. It was the time Magistrate Jawo then dropped the wigs to
> wear an apron, ready to cook false reasons in getting Fatou Jaw Manneh
> charged.
>
>
> Curious observation of the whole matter leaves more questions unanswered.
> In the first place, Fatou Jaw Manneh was not the author of that article. She
> was simply interviewed and only expressed a fair and frank opinion. The
> interview was carried by *The Independent* (Gambia) and published by *
> allgambian.net*. Whatever Fatou Jaw Manneh expressed as opinion in that
> interview that is what the common man already knows and talks about all
> around Gambia. There is no exaggeration, no false information. Everything
> said and written still stands the test of competent scrutiny.
>
>
> Since when that interview was published in October 2005 to the time of
> Fatou's arrest two years later, there was no incident reported by Gambian
> police or the security apparatus bearing on the interview or its
> publication. The information shared was such common knowledge it has not
> provoked or prompted any adverse reaction. In fact, it has gone just like
> any regular public gossip. Therefore the interview and its publication did
> not cause any alarm. The president being described as "*frosty imam" *and
> seen as *"shredding our beloved country" *was no news. It was the truth at
> the time and is still the solid truth up to this day.
>
>
> Fatou Jaw Manneh was not on a leisure trip when she visited Gambia from
> America landing in the hands of Gambian security. She lost her dear father.
> The entire family, neighbours, and sympathisers were soaked in grief. It was
> the most inhumane act to arrest a person while attending a father's funeral.
> When the father-in-law of Gambian president Yahya Jammeh died, it was taken
> as state funeral even though the deceased Mr Suma was buried in his native
> Guinea. The late father of Fatou Jaw Manneh deserved lot more respect and
> sympathy in a country he was born, raised children, and served the wider
> community. It was the most dishonourable act on the side of all those state
> agents and magistrates who handled Fatou Jaw Manneh with utter contempt.
> Shame on them! That of course includes President Yahya Jammeh who dictated
> the whole affair out of malice and personal vendetta.
>
>
> Even if Fatou Jaw Manneh had authored and published the article in
> perspective, she would have done so under total protection of every law. She
> has a right to express her opinion, freedom of speech, and association. She
> acted within the bounds of international and state laws. She was not guilty.
>
>
>
> Considering the whole process leading to her arrest, long delayed and
> denial of justice, this is a call on authorities in Gambia to rescind their
> decision and drop all charges against Fatou Jaw Manneh. It has been 3 years
> since her interview and its publication did not provoke any public disorder.
> She was dragged to court and denied justice in a long retarding legal
> process. During all that period, there was no adverse reaction from members
> of the Gambian public. Evidently therefore, Fatou Jaw Manneh's interview and
> its publication did not merit a court action leading to this unjustifiable
> charge of GMD250, 000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Gambian Dalasi) or
> $12,000.
>
>
> On a reverse note of reasonable consideration, Fatou Jaw Manneh deserves
> unreserved legal redress and good financial compensation of nothing less
> than One Million Gambian Dalasi. No amount of financial handout will absorb
> the pain and distressful experience Fatou Jaw Manneh suffered.
>
>
> This call is extended to all development partners, embassies, missions,
> human rights groups, press organisations, and individuals to exert pressure
> on Gambia Government in ensuring that lasting justice is dispensed without
> further delay. The call is extended to Gambian judiciary, the security
> apparatus and president of the republic to reconsider their role in this
