Hi LJD,

You can be very funny at times, and obviously a good teacher always. No, even Bailo or Malanding will interprete this Fulani wording to you, "PULLO DOGATA..." so no, I say to you equally, don't give up on me please, because Demba won't.

You know I am typical African. The unforgiving cold weathers here brought me a bad flu. As I struggle to reply, I am sneezing forcibly on my keystrokes.  As such, will shorten the answer for you just now, and to resume the debate as time permits -inshallahu.

An editorial is just an opinion. It should be the mouth-piece of the paper, after mutual consultation of all the editors. I understand it can escape some; it can be within accepted standards at times. In any ways, my humble view is it should be balance and fair, normally a reflection of the peoples' thoughts. May be once the giant writers break the silence, they can elaborate on this highly debatable matter. I haven't been good at writing them, because I am too impatient with Jammeh's nonsense. Demba and Lamma has done a good job, in filtering my words many a times.

As to what my job is at GON -if not merely a contributing member and an active associate, honestly nothing else. Ownership to GON is by all the signatories, mutually. If all that credit be crowned, please give it to Demba & ML Jallow. I honestly believe I don't own any of it. I just happen to be the forum worm, making the loud noise all the time. I am so indebted to these two. Call it humbleness if you would, but that is just it. This is just the full disclosure, if honest words would mean "accountability" from me.

But you LJD, just like me speak in riddles most of the time. Unless you come to the down level where others can understand, you are certain to be a speaker while others  listen and let it go without questioning anything. In the end, I know the points you are pulling have to do with Jammeh's administration and democracy. As time permits, please enlighten us more on this, because you know I am like Toubab sometimes, curious to know all the whys and the why-nots.

Very Sincerely yours and please keep up the enlightenment.

Always,

Yj

I agree entirely with your perspective of what "democracy" should entail, and yes I know your view on the "matters at stake". I also visit GON, and all other Gambia-dedicated on-line media outlets, including the other side of the story, i.e., The Daily Observer, several times a day, for the ULTIMATE breaking news.

As it implicates expression, even if at a lower level of importance, I am keenly following the Pap Saine story. On the face of the story, your condemnation of Saine's torment appears to be in order.

For important, yet smaller outlets like GON, The Point, and other Gambian media houses, what is your understanding of the relation between the Editor/Owner, and an "editorial"?

Does the editorial represent the views of the Editor/Owner, or is it separate from the Editor/Owner? I appreciate that ownership and editorial control are separate in some outlets, but are merged in others.

If GON routinely editorialises on the positive aspects of "democracy" in The Gambia, is it fair to assume that position as representing YJ's view considering the size of the paper, and YJ's close involvement in running it?

Hi LJD,
You very well know where I stand on these matters at stake. Picturally, imagine a blue flying kite. If ever one asks you whether you are seeing a blue or white kite, then that signals a problem right there, and lacking the blue color itself because the flying kite should be blue.
I believe in democracy within standards; i.e. to say as Lincoln once puts it:
"Of the people; by the people and for the people."
"Of the people," to mean power belongs to the people.
"By the people," to mean the Gambian populace own the constitution in its entirity; they entrusted power to the rulers of the land and at will.
"For the people." to mean that the government should be the servant of the people. They should represent the plight and wishes of the populace.
Going by these standards, it is clear that democracy is far from being it, not to talk of a vibrant democracy…which to a lay man like me would just mean a "healthy democracy," instead it is "sick democracy" under a "criminal ruler." The constitution is prostituted; the citizenry oppressed; voices (the politicians, the press and activists) all silenced; the judiciary corrupted and due process of law not observed. Herein, we are looking at Jammeh and his demons, or call it the demonic administration. Apparently, Jammeh shows more respect to the demons than to Gambian citizens. If I am right in my analysis, then we are further from being a "vibrant democracy."

Please update yourself on the Pap Saine's palaver. I am sure you asked the above to pass something onto me. I truly look forward to it. You might be right that I am expecting too much from these criminal rulers. Back to you (SIC.)
Best of regards always,
Yj

What are your thoughts on Gambian "democracy"?

Would you say we have a vibrant democracy in The Gambia?

I condemn his arrest.

Just last week, Jammeh was heard saying "criticise me" and that is fertilizer. This once again proves jammeh's hypocrisy. The sooner that Gambians prepare themselves for the final battle that will boot the punk out, the better life shapes.
