Thanks Mo, Dampha, Madi, Pa Musa, LJD, Haruna and others. As Mo rightly said, the recent controversy was a blessing in disguish for the GPU-USA. We have indeed emerged from it better known as an organization and much stronger than we were just a few days ago. We will continue to politiely urge our dear brothers on all kinds of Gambian media to help achieve our common goals for our country.

Baba

Thanks, Baba, for your flexibility at this moment. It was the honorable thing to do. Humility is a great asset for any person, especially those in a leadership position. In a way, this fiasco is a blessing in disguise for the GPU-USA. I can't remember when I last saw such a flurry of exchanges on this mailing list.

As most of you have pointed out, this should make the GPU-USA stronger than ever before. No marketing plan would have given it this much exposure in so short a time! Unless, of course, we had gone to Larry King.

Now that we have all awoken from the stupor that had led to the virtual demise of the organization, let's not lose the momentum.

Thanks everyone!

Momodou.

Subject: [GPU] Withdrawal of Resignation

Dear Friends,

A few hours ago, I sent an email to the GPU-USA listserv saying to those who were calling for me to rescind my decision to resign that I will not be able to do that. Ever since, I have had some emails both on our list and in private, and some phone calls, urging me to stay on so we can all steer our union out of these rough waters. Even Joe Sambou and Lamin Jatta, my two favorite Jolas, chipped in with whips and orders that I cannot budge from my position. I also note Demba Jawo's helpful remarks, as well as the brief but helpful statements of Sarjo Bayang and Femi Peters Jr. in the UK, as well as some of our compatriots on the Gambia-L and Gambia Post.

In the light of these overwhelming calls for me to continue serving the GPU-USA, and considering that my initial reasons for stepping down are unlikely to be met, I am happy to announce that I am withdrawing my resignation with immediate effect and will continue to serve as Secretary General of the GPU-USA for the rest of my term in office, which expires in Januray 2010.

I also call upon all our brothers in the online media to please join us in forging a stronger union.

Thank you all.

Baba Galleh Jallow
Secretary General
GPU-USA
