President Jammeh, a leader worth following - Waa Juwara

Monday, May 18, 2009
The leader of the opposition National Democratic Action Movement (NDAM), Lamin Waa Juwara, at the Jareng meeting, attested to President Jammeh's quality and visionary leadership in the national development efforts of The Gambia.

“I agree that President Jammeh is a leader who is worth following,” he told the gathering, adding that if anyone believes that they are true and bona fide Gambians like him (the NDAM leader), they must agree with this. A native of Niamina Dankunku, in the Central River Region (CRR), Juwara is a nominated councilor of the Brikama Area Council. He told the Jareng meeting that “I once said in Niamina that I am the UDP party propagandist, but today, the people of Dankunku fetch water just the same way as the people of Banjul.” And this, Juwara said, is thanks to President Jammeh who disregarded all differences in terms of affiliation - political or whatsoever. He called on the rest of the opposition fraternity to accept that President Jammeh is their true leader, telling them that if he (President Jammeh) gets up, they must all stand along with him. “This is what is called democratic, constructive engagement,” he said.

The Dankunku plain speaking politician further told the gathering that Africa has now passed the era of “donkey” politics, asserting that Gambians embrace the new politics or else the phenomenon of “political suicide” will cripple the country. Juwara assured President Jammeh that today, only peace prevails in Niamina, despite years of hatred amongst the people of the area. “But that era has passed,” he stressed. He then added: “Yesterday, I was the UDP party propagandist while Yankuba Touray was the APRC party mobiliser. But we, the opposition, our fuel is exhausted. So, rescue us.” President Jammeh was unequivocal in welcoming this development. He commended Juwara for demonstrating true solidarity and citizenship.
