Demba,

I absolutely have no problem with who The Watchman is and I have nothing against him or his writings. I think the problem is with people accusing me of being The Watchman when I am not. If I were The Watchman, I would have no problem owning up to it. But I am not. Thanks for the feedback.

Mawdo Baba,

Don't worry about clarifying who the watchman is. I have shared with Yero that we have had a close contact with the watchman last year when he had an interview with Gainako. While we don't know exactly who this watchman is, we were able to build a profile of him from our interview and articles he has been sending and knows where he is writing from.

In fact, one day I got a call from this Watchman and I spoke to him for over an hour regarding his writings to Gainako and other sites.  He expressed his desire to remain annonimous because of what he called a "close relationship with someone in the Jammeh regime". I still have the phone number he called me from and we know what state he called from.

During my conversation with the Watchman I made it clear to him that it was not Gainako's policy to publish articles from unknown people especially when they are engage in fruitless debates.  While it is our obligation to keep our sources annonimous, it becomes unacceptable if they are engage in witch hunting against other people. Thus the reason we stopped publishing articles from the Watchman until we see important issues being discussed.

So let people speculate who the watchman is but we know what state he is sending his articles from and by virtue of his education he can do better than what he is writing right now as I shared with him over the phone.

Yero, the watchman knows who he is and I think he has too much to offer than to engage in fruitless debates.

Thanks

Demba - Gainako Co-editor.

Dear Yero,

Thank you for sharing this piece with me. I guess as someone active in the public arena, I am bound to be accused, rightly or wrongly, of things I have not done. I am certainly not The Watchman, and Allah is my witness. The writer of that piece has absolutely no evidence that I am The Watchman. He or she simply suspects very strongly that I am. But he or she is wrong. Again, God is my witness that he or she is wrong. As for my being humiliated by Halifa and my hating Halifa, this writer is just expressing his or her hatred of me. And he or she has the right to hate and love whoever he or she wants. I know that he or she owes me an apology for wrongly accusing me. But I do not demand an apology. I know that we human beings are frail and fallible and we all are often betrayed by our minds and prejudices. I leave all in the hands of God Almighty, and pray that the truth about this is brought to light. Just for the record, I am sharing this posting with the Gambia Post and Gambia-L. Please clikc on the link below to read a write-up Yero shared with me in private.

Galleh,

I don't know if you are a reader/contributor to Bantaba, and I was
surprised to follow some funny threads of late, especially the latest.
Please excuse my over vigilance and I thought I can bring it to your attention.

Regards,
