Indeed a great loss for Gambia and for Africa.
My sincere condolences to the Peters family and  extended family.
May Allah's impart his infinite mercy on Dr Peters.

 The death has been reported of the prominent Gambian surgeon, author and poet, Dr. Lenrie Peters. He died in a hospital in Dakar, Senegal on Wednesday where he was taken for treatment from a brief illness.
 Condolences to his family, including his two sisters, the journalist and social activist Bijou 'Bidwell'Peters and the historian Florence Mahoney.

The cold hands of death has snatched another one of ours from our midst -a highly respectable man. He was able to represent his ideas in writing. It makes a lot of difference today, because even though he is gone, his true legacy remains. May Allah swt who knows best show mercy to a departed soul. The quranic verse "kulli nafsin eja ekat'l mawti " cannot be challenged. Even Esa (PBUH) will come down to go through this process.
