So True and valuable advice Yaa Bilal. I have declined many a prospective bride and friend for this. I think Allah is with me. Since the activity is so prevalent, I have built mechanisms in my own life that automatically gives notice that I have no patience for such slander and libel. Thank you Bilal for these and those reflections. I must add however that this advice does not take umbrage at reporting a crime, criminal conduct, or criminal threats. We must still report those but to law enforcement. Haruna.

Subject: Fwd: Daily Hadith - You Know What She Said!...

You Know What She Said!...

asul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: “He who stirs enmity
mong people, by quoting their words to each other, will not enter
aradise.” [Bukhari]
Unfortunately, this is a common social evil these days. Rather than
end relations among people, Shaytaan has us excited about carrying
ales to each other. “You won’t believe what he did!...Can you imagine
hat she said?...”
Refuse to listen to what other people have said or done. It is
ackbiting, just to hear it. If what you are being told about is not
rue, it is an even bigger sin, both for the person telling it and the
erson listening to it. If you tell yourself not to believe everything
ou hear, your heart will nevertheless be tainted by it. That is why
he Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa salla
m) told his companions not to
ay things about each other to him, since he didn't want to meet them
ith disquiet in his heart. If Rasul Allah's feelings for people had
he possibility of getting soured by hearing tales about them, despite
is being rehmat-ul-lil-alameen, then we are certainly not above being
orrupted by listening to tales.
The people who carry tales from one person to another, do it in the
uise of well wishers. First they sympathize with one party. Then they
ake what they have gleaned to other people and sow discord, ruining
elations between people, by repeating things. A person who behaves in
uch a manner is being two faced. Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi
asallam) said: “You find that among the worst people is someone who
s two-faced, showing one face to some and another face to others.”
