I encourage you to see the wonderful work SOS is doing around the world and to lend a hand however you are able. As friendly challenge, I encourage all my friends and coleagues here at Ellen to donate $1.00 worth to www.sos-childrensvillages.org at the Donate online page. Thank you in advance. Haruna.

Dear Haruna,

I'm Heather Paul, Executive Director of SOS Children's Villages - USA. I want to thank you for your gift of $100.00 to SOS Children's Villages. Your generous and heartfelt contribution to SOS helps build families and futures for orphaned and abandoned children around the world.
Please consider sponsoring a child in one of almost 500 SOS Villages around the world.  When you sponsor an SOS child, you will receive the child's photo, an annual progress report, and on-going communications about your sponsored child.  For as little as $1 per day, you can change a child's life...and yours - forever.
"I believe that by helping a child in need, they grow up and eventually help someone else in need.  For a few dollars a month - less than the cost of a dinner out - you can make a difference in someone's life, and that makes me very happy."

I also hope that you will take time to discover more ways to stay actively involved with SOS Children's Villages. Here are just a few:
Again, I would like to thank you for your kind and generous commitment to SOS Children's Villages. Americans are known to be some of the most generous people in the world. You certainly are! Friends and coleagues,

I was overtaken by compassion and enthusiasm when I shared the effort to raise funds on the behalf of SOS children's villages. I had a phone conversation with Hugh and I am more sober now.

SOS appreciates the concept of the effort but it will be both inefficient and improper at this time for me to engage in the friendly challenge for these reasons:

1. SOS has at their website, a comprehensive platform for individuals to donate to the organisation by going to www.sos-childrensvillages.org and donate online. So I would encourage you to visit the site and complete your challenge there.

2. Due to SOS's Worldwide scope, and the fact that you my coleagues and friends are dispersed worldwide, it is a no-brainer that the online donation platform at the SOS website is a more efficient and appropriate way to complete your gifting to the organisation.

3. SOS gets numerous solicitations for individuals and organisations to raise funds for SOS and it will present a nightmare if SOS had to go through the vetting and approval process for anyone who wishes to raise funds for the organisation. SO as much as they may appreciate the effort, the process may become so burdensome that some untoward fundraising could actually happen and tarnish the name and image of SOS. I totally understand this position. In fact it will be the same position we will adopt at The GDP when we finally launch.

4. Individuals and o rganisations who desire to raise funds for SOS will go through a legal and accounting approval process which could take some time and could be quite involved. So for the purposes of my friendly challenge to you, and the July 4th deadline, It is almost impossible to complete that process prior to the deadline. Once The GDP is fully formed, we will seek to collaborate with SOS to yield SOS's work more value. We are so enamored with what they are doing, we will do whatever it takes to get involved with them. Meanwhile, we are contented to go to SOS's website and donate to the organisation as individuals but not to raise funds on their behalf.

Therefore, for those who may be thinking of sending their currency units to us, I encourage you not to send it to us at this time, instead to donate it to SOS by going to www.sos-childrensvillages.org and click on the Donate online button to complete your gifting that way.

I was so psyched up for this challenge I almost put the cart before the horse. I'm glad to have spoken to Hugh twice; today and the day I first suggested the challenge to you good people of Ellen. In my enthusiasm, I failed to make it clear that we will begin only after I receive permission from Hugh and or Richard. Propriety dictates that I apologise to SOS and to you for the oversight. If your donation is already in the mail to me, please expect it to be returned to you with an encouragement to gift it di rectly to SOS at their e-donation platform. I will complete my $100.00 pledge there myself today. Their work is too important and valuable to Global reprieve. Luckily I do not have any donation in hand from anyone yet to warrant return. But as you know me, if your donation is in the mail to me, you know you'll receive it back in the shortest time.

By copy of this note to Hugh and my friend Caesar, I advise all and sundry of my renewed sobriety.

Thank you one and all. And carry on.

Haruna.

Although this is a time of severe economic hardship, children have the least capacity to survive. Add onto that the los or absence of nurturing parents, you have a recipe for lasting devaluation of the human family. I hereby pledge $100 to SOS as friendly challenge to our friends and coleagues at Ellen. $1.00, a big one, is the challenge. You may give more as your situation allows. Please send to:
Gambia-L/SOS Secours
C/O The GDP
P.O. Box 775
Lithia Springs, GA 30122

You may send your donation in any currency or instrument and the amount, in its various currencies, will be forwarded by FEDEX to SOS Kinderdorf International and due recognition for Gambia-L will be given and haed=2 0here. It is highly recommended to send various currencies to symbolize theinternational nature of SOS. We will mark July 4th as cease-date for this challenge and depending on response, we will establish a ONE-DOLLAR SOS FUND at www.thegdp.wordpress.com to continue the effort for eternity.

By copy of this note to Richard and Hugh, SOS is informed of our effort.

Thank you friends and coleagues of Gambia-L. Haruna.

Dear Haruna Darbo

One piece of news follows the other these days: refugees, displaced people, amongst them thousands of children with or without their families or temporarily separated from their families in the chaos. Losing the safe haven of one's family, even if it is "only" temporarily - like in exceptional situations such as war or natural disasters - has a catastrophic impact on children's souls. In such situations SOS Children's Villages considers it as a matter of priority to take care of children. Though the organisation supports these children materially, it attaches more importance to providing emotional security. Currently SOS Children's Villages is trying to support children in Sri Lanka and Pakistan and to take every possible step to learn about the whereabouts of their families. If these children's families are not found, there must be a place where these children can live on a long term basis and where they can feel at home one day, when their pain has eased.
Sixty years of experience have shown us what children need when they - for a number of reasons - can no longer live with their families. We kindly ask you to continue to support these children.

Best wishes,

Richard Pichler
