Five Gambian Judges Appointed

According to a statement from the office of the Chief Justice, His Excellency, President Yahya Jammeh, acting under the provisions of Section 138(2) of the Constitution, 1997, has appointed the following legal and judicial officials as Judges of the High Court of the Gambia: Mrs. Kumba Sillah-Camara, Principal Magistrate, Mr. Edrissa Fafa Mbai, Principal Magistrate, Mr. Basiru Vassili Portier Mahoney, Principal Magistrate, Mrs. Mama Fatima Singhateh, Private Legal Practitioner and Mrs. Amina M.L. Saho-Ceesay, Master and Registrar of the High Court.

The release further stated that, the appointments were made on the recommendations of the Judicial Service Commission, in line with the indigenisation policy of the government.

This brings the total number of judges at the High Court to fourteen, ten of whom are Gambians. The new judges will assume duties after being sworn in by the President.
