In this era that we are, no one should be over sensitive to constructive criticism, but it seems that Fofana was rash in his judgements on our folks here. If Ousainou responded him, and he made it look as if the opposition leader decline to comment falls on double standard.
Fofana shouldn't jump to conclusion without verifying all his facts (stories). It now happens that Ousainou gave time to his request, yet Fofana's interpretation was deceptive and misleading. I hope the UDP demands that he rectify the errorneous reports.
On Halifa's responses, What Fofana needs to bear in mind is that, our democracy is a work in progress. Not many Gambians are willing to sacrifice the time and resources for the public good.
Ousainou and Halifa are both men who have lost a lot by merely being opposition outfits. Ousainou is disadvantage at his profession as a successful lawyer, which big business will hire him now that Yahya has stakes in all Gambian business enterprises?
Halifa and his PDOIS folsk could also be gainfully employed on more rewarding ventures, but they chose a career of politics, that alone is commendable.
Fofana's comments are welcome, but he should be understanding to the plight of the opposition. I agree with him that, new leaders require coming to the foe, but those new leadership materials needs to put themselves forward, rather than expect to be chosen.
Ousainou's proactive response is again commendable. They need to speak in important matters like this.

Hello Mr. Fofana,

I read with dismay that I "refused to comment via email" whilst I was out of the country on vacation.  I would have expected that you would state that at the time of going to press you had not received a reply from me.  Your email to me dated 4th September, 2009 in which you indicated that my reply came a little bit too late for the Focus on Africa Magazine article proves that I did not "refuse" to comment.  In fact, you indicated that you will use some of my answers as quotes in your presentation on Gambia.

I hope in the future you will not rush to conclusions that paint a negative picture of interviewees.

I have copied a gentleman who saw your piece and commented on it in one of the Gambia fora.

Regards,

Ousainu Darboe

Folks please check on the latest edition of BBC Focus on Africa Magazine-October to December 2009 edition out on the newsstand in UK. There is an interesting articles on the Gambia which I recommend you to read. Babagalleh Jallow's analysis under the radar is an addition to the masterpiece of Professor Abdoulaye Saine's January 2009 edition. Along with Baba's article is also that of BBC Journalist Unaru Fofana who have recently completed a trip to the Gambia.
In Baba's analysis under the radar stated '' the least Gambia expatriates can do is speak up''. Mr Jallow have really pull our legs giving estimation of Gambian in the Diaspora whose numbers only appear in naming ceremonies, weddings sports organised by Gambian expatriates and when in comes to political participation, the culture of political passivity and fear that characterises our people back home has followed up abroad.

The two other interesting articles in the magazine is a frank view from outsider Journalist Umaru Fofana. Mr Fofana stated that Gambian have lost hope in all their politicians. The 5 opposition parties all lack the democractic torch to brighten the country's politic. According to Mr Fofana's write up, none since held any creadibe and transparent national delegate conference to subject themselves to the democratic will of their members. In his encouter with Halifa Sallah according to Mr Fofana when he asked him about internal democracy within PDOIS, he deviates into history lesson and then gets all philosophical. For Ousainou Darboe himself was out of the country and refuses to comment via email.
The other article in the magazine was day one to five of Umaru Fofana's trips-recounts the tribulations of being a foreign journalist in Banjul. Please grap your copy and once again I said Job well done. Babagalleh Jallow!  I hope you have a safe journey. We wish you stay much long.
