Folks,

Agreeable! You can accept to hitch on Cherno Baba’s words and risk understanding the piece half way or get your lexicon nearby. I did the later.

In the article “Of Press Freedom and Mass Enlightenment,” Cherno cried about Jammeh’s inaccessibility by the press.  This is true because Jammeh won’t like being asked about Deyda, Koro, Daba, the witch craft activities etc…Imagine a press conference where Jammeh would have to answer these questions. What can he say?

Added to that, Cherno also argued that we need a vibrant press or media self-sacrificing individuals, the likes of Soyinka and the list of survivors of African dictatorships that would confront Jammeh heads on. This he attributed partially to “weakness.” In his closing statement, he said Gambia’s media are victims of Jammeh to a large extent and “its litany of inadequacies.”
