JDAM,

A UDP partisan forwarded the following to us at The GDP. I share it here. This must be the ML Touray I took our own Mr. T for. From Pirang. Enjoy folks.

REJOINDER to GRTS interview with ML Touray

In an interview on the Gambia Radio and Television services (GRTS) with Kebba Dibba on the evening of 5th October with one Mr. Momodou Lamin Touray who confessed to have switched to the APRC was captioned "UDP Campaign Manager joins APRC". The UDP wishes to point out the falsity of this statement with the following facts:

1. Mr. Touray has not been a registered member of the United Democratic Party. As he himself said in his interview, he was a militant and stalwart of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) and worked with the UDP in the alliance of the two parties formed during the 2001 Presidential Election

2. With the subsequent creation of the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD), in 2005, Mr. Touray became a member of NADD and stayed a member until his reported shift to the APRC yesterday. He has no claim to UDP membership.

He was put up by the NADD Party as a candidate against the UDP candidate Mr. Lamin R Darboe, in the Kombo East Constituency bye-election following the death of Hon. Kebba Touray

4. The Campaign Manager of the UDP is Mr. Femi Peters, who has absolutely no intention of shifting to the APRC

For Mr. Touray to be called the UDP Campaign Manager therefore is not only false but a deliberate effort20to mislead the Gambian people. Such blatant political misinformation is the norm at GRTS and UDP deplores it. GRTS needs to be professional in their reporting. Gambians need more noteworthy news coverage and educational programs than be used as a propaganda tool.

For any person who claims to shift his allegiance to APRC would always label his/herself as a UDP stalwart to give them a high political value.

Momodou Lamin Touray, a veteran opposition politician is the latest to say bye to the opposition camp to join the ruling APRC.

The reason for Mr Touray’s move is quite simple as in his own words: ‘The leadership of His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh is as solid as a rock and as constant as the Northern Star’. He described the oppostion as a group that does not pose an iota of threat to the ruling APRC part
y and expressed his utter regret for not joining the bandwagon of developement which is the APRC party.

In a letter sent to the coordinator of the PPP, his former party and copied sent to the Daily Observer, Lamin Touray spoke good of President Jammeh and the APRC while slamming the opposition.

Below is the full text of the dispatch
I hereby wish to tender this letter as a resignation from the People’s Progressive Party (PPP). You will recall that since the party’s registration in 2001, I have risen within the ranks starting as a central committee member. I have eventually been promoted to the executive committee where I had manned the portfolio of chairman of the social committee responsible for fund-raising and other social activities.

In 2006 I was again promoted to the position of the Propaganda and Organising secretary of the party, a position I maintained up to my resignation today. As a matter of principle I always show my full commitment to any association I belong to. This is evident in my participation and contribution in all party matters from the 2001 coalition with the UDP to the existing NADD alliance. I have represented my party in almost all elections and by-elections either as a campaign manager or be part of the campaign team in some instances. My position as the Executive Committee member in charge of elections in NADD is also a position I cherished. Sir I consider all these as training sessions which did beef up my political experience and career to perform bett
er any given opportunity.

My biggest regret had been my negligence to all the happening around me in respect of development in this country. I have been blind folded until of recent when I realised that my contribution towards the development of this country can only be attained by going along with time and tide and not being vice versa.

It is crystal clear that the APRC’s magnitude is in the increase. This great party under the leadership of H.E Sheikh Professor Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh is as solid as a rock and as constant as the Northern Star. It is abundantly clear that the opposition block in this country does not pose an iota of threat to its magnanimity.

To conclude Sir, I pray for a day I will whole-heartedly join others to welcome you and anybody I have proceeded into the APRC.

Thank you so much.
Yours faithfully,
Momodou Lamin Touray
