Mr. Sanneh,

Gainako team appreciates your concerns genuine or not in wanting to see consistency and acuracy of reporting at our site. We guarantee our readers that learning and development is a constant commitment in our daily endeavor.

Having said that and hoping that your criticism was genuine, we take you and your words with a grain of salt. Your credibility is at question for the simple reason that you did not honestly ask for explanation of the inconsistencies you saw at Gainako but instead appears to have an axe to grind. We have gone this route before and the humiliation people like you went through before in trying to discredit our efforts is still burning in your hearts and you appear to be sitting on the edge waiting for something to jump onto.

You are being dishonest because instead of pointing the flaws you see at Gainako in good faith you seems to want to give credit to our sister paper Senegambia instead of simply wanting to see correction of what you considered lies at Gainako.  Gainako and Senegambia are not in competition as my colleague already mentioned, but instead we compliment each others' efforts... at least that is the way we see it on our end... Now let me show you and the respected readers on this forum where you clearly have an axe to grind.

First of all, every honest person on this forum or who reads Gainako knows that we have a consistent, dedicated and credible reporter on the ground in the Gambia for the last two years. He has done and continue to do an incredible job. He deserves credit for his incredible reporting.

Secondly, we will give you credit for pointing our some inconsistencies in the story you read which refers to the emergency landing and takeoff that Solo reported, it was an editorial error that should have been corrected. We in fact caught the error and was going to correct it but due to human nature it was overlooked.

Third, the story of Tamba being in Denmark is acurate as he Wrapped up his visit in Denmark and returned to the Gambia the evening before the incident. In case you don't know Infomation is not always readily available in the Gambia so reporters do their best under the circumstances...

Fourth, just in case you are not aware, there are various form of arrest... one can be arrested and taken for questioning and release later... one can also be put under house arrest disarmed as what may be the case with top security officers... So Tamba could have been arrested one day and be released the next day... so there is nothing there for you to chew on..

So the bigger question is who is Alieu Sanneh and what is your motivation for attacking Gainako and acusing us of stealing other peoples' stories and stupidity?.. Who owns the news out there?  Does any one story belong to any news outlet?  We will let readers answer those questions.

The bottom line is Alieu Sanneh (if truly you are Alieu) you have squandered a perfect opportunity to express your true concerns without sounding like a defeated angry citizen trying to regain what you assumed to be your rightful spot or favoring one outlet over another. So as far as we are concern you have no credibility and in fact your indentity and location reveals your true intentions....

Oh one more thing before we go.... who is this Alieu Sanneh from MN who authored this article on the Gambiaecho? Is it a coincident that Alieu happen to live in Minnesota? Alieu... Stop the hatred and hate the game and not the players.  This is not how we want to spend our valuable times and resources. However, we are strongly convinced people like you cannot go unchallenged because they can be poisonous and hateful for reasons best known to them.... So continue on your agenda and it better for substantiated.... and be rest assured of our timely response on any baseless allegations.

Check this article before and connect the dots.... with respect...

1. Your first report said Tamba was in Denmark, which was a lie because he was seen on GRTS TV that very evening in a black suit when Jammeh visited Yundum barracks. And for everyone, please call your people back home in Gambia and ask them whether Tamba was not seen with Yankuba Drammeh and Jammeh at Yundum.

2. After you said he was in Denmark, you came back with a story to say he was released from detention. You owe your readers on Gainako and and here on Gambia-L an explanation by telling us where Tamba was released from? From detention in Gambia or Denmark? Journalism goes with responsibility and honesty
3. If your reporter Solo has 20 yrs experience in journalism then he will never improve. His English stings, really.

4. You also did not explain the inherent lies in your reports about Jammeh's flight cancellation. Your reports said the aeroplane never took of and later you said the plane made an emergency landing! If you cannot see these stupidity then you need another job, not journalism because your memories fail even before you finish editing.

Stop deviating and address the issue head on. Whether you hail from the same village with Tamba or introduced senegambianews to Gambians is irrelevant.

Alieu,

It is funny how you are calling Gainako big lies, yet you want an explanation from us.

I think it is Cheik Anta Diop, the Senegalese scholar who can be credited with the saying “a clear conscience fears no accusation.”

Without resorting to equal trading of words, you are fine by us to form your opinion. For your information, your allegations are false and unfounded, if incase you care to hear from us. Wallahi, I call on anyone else to join you while you are speaking the truth, but nay, not a finger will join you. The confidence we have is based on the truthfulness which will never fail us.

First, in case history on these online outlets failed on your part, Gainako was the first paper that announced the existence of Senegambia News (Press release) with a follow up interview with Jambang then. We do not compete in news stories with Jambang, or any other news outlet.  We see all the other outlets as sister papers, and we greatly collaborated with all in what we do.

http://www.gainako.com/news/articles/former-freedom-editor-launches-senegambia.html

http://www.gainako.com/news/articles/interview-yankuba-jambang-founder---senegambia-newspaper.html

Second, our reporter Solo is with over 20 years of journalism experience -Whatever that may interpret to you now. I doubt Solo’s analysis can be similar to what Jambang has been reporting. Keep monitoring though and don’t stop because he is fully operational. Visit our archives too to satisfy your embedded curiosity. Call it a spade whenever necessary.

Third, Regarding Lang Tombong Tamba, I wish I do not have to thread about him here, because we all hailed from Sintet, at least for that conflict of interest that I am engulfed in.  FYI, and that of readers here, I personally spoke with Lang Tombong today (10/11/09) at a personal level, to express my empathy over his situation.

http://www.gainako.com/news/news/2009/10/11/former-chief-of-defense-langtombong-tamba-released-.html

Forth: Errors, typos, grammatical etc…Probably if you are speaking with a clear conscience and good heart’s spirit, this advice is worth listening to. We seek to improve in content. This is not a point to be ignored. I think every humbly scholar who went through struggles of higher learning accepts the “learning curves” involved in real life, regarding errors in general. Anyone who uses such to mock must as well examine himself properly in his way of thinking. Also, on an offer of resolution regarding the matter, your mail will be copied to all our editors including Solo. Consider this our response to you, unless there is something from you worth explanation. If you are writer yourself, consider sending your next contribution to Gainako….and you are very welcome.

Fifth, for a fact, you don’t need to go far fetch. Added to solo’s report, Momodou Camara also noted at the Bantaba Cyber space that Tamba was in Denmark. How is that also?

Sixth, after three years of existence with all the reportage we posted at the Gambia L, Gambia Post, Bantaba, Gambia Press Union, etc…, how much sense can it make that we pirate stories?

Alieu, if only you are after the truth, you surely wronged us on this one, but as people in the political arena, we can’t help by engaging in back and forward jabbing. Like Baba Galleh once said here, and to paraphrase, though you owe us an apology, we are not demanding one. It is both a distraction and a waste of precious time. For a long time, these Gambian forums have been abused by people who don’t believe in self redemption and true enlightenment. Instead of engaging in what is at stake, people are dragged into devilish distractions. It reminds us all here that the very devil at home Jammeh is feeling the heat, and he might be online as well.

In my last note, I hope forum administrations everywhere will put to full check people who intentionally abuse forums by “flaming” topics unnecessarily or by making unfounded and unsubstantiated accusations.

I think I will humbly conclude for you like is said “What won’t kill you will make you stronger.”

For Gainako’s Defense,

Yj, Little Egret

Folks:

Who would take Gainako seriously? When senegambianews broke the news of Jammeh's trip cancellation to Paris due to plane's engine emitting smoke in midair, Gainako reported that the plane never tookoff. Surprisingly however, and in the same Gainako story, they said the pilot made an emergency landing! How can a plane land when it never took off? Please read their battered and bruised news here http:www.gainako.com

Again when senegambia said Lang tombong was removed and sent to jail, Gainako said he was in Denmark. Today they came back with a story that Lang Tombong is released from detention. One may ask - from where? Denmark?

Gainako should clarify and stop pirating other people's story because they lack credibility and the English that goes with good journalism.

Alieu.

Lamin et al,

Golf is sport for thinkers, strategist and tacticians, I guess. Its just you, the club, the ball and the terrain with the weather, no-one else to blame if you fail. Golf is one our biggest tourist a ttraction, I bet and will not go away that easily.

Interesting how people get promoted now in our armed forces: Saikou Seckan, for instance was instrumental in lying about the coup as it is rumored that he told Tamba who phone his Ogre, in Mauritania. Ironic that few years ago, I visited Salieu Dem and Saikou Seckan and Seckan told that they have not slept the whole weekend, as they were arrested and tortured on lies of late Omar Ndure. I asked whether they will continue the service, and they were surprised by that question. I told them that I will not serve with soldiers who tortured me and will rather resign my commission. I will have allowed no-one to=2 0arrest me illegally in the first place much more endure torture! So both Tamba and Seckan were rewarded with General ranks, from major and lieutenant ranks, what a joke! Even a rebel army has better standards and regulations than ours. The standards and regulations are there, all right in the form of Terms and Conditions of Services and the Armed Forces Regulations, but no one follows them. Trainings and exercises are no-existence, as anyone who organizes training, is always accused of military coups, as was seen in my own case. I remember in 1997 when Kalifa Bajinka was ADC to the Ogre, he calls me asking about coup plots anytime the late Vincent Jatta organizes training for 1 Infantry Battalion in Yundum. Usually=2 0we speak Turkish but on those occasions, he always insist we speak English or Mandinka, most likely because the big ugly Ogre listens!

I believe though that our time has come, as the soldiers are disgruntled, hungry and they see no future because of the serious devaluation of the Dalasi and the lack of basic military standards. A private soldier earns less than the cost of a bag of rice and they are expected to work for two weeks on average, before a weekend break, with 2000 guard posts to man, all invented by the paranoid Ogre! That's slavery and they are expected to die for their country, if necessary! I came from East Timor and my company complaint of paying for accommoda tion, they do not have, as they are asked to stay together, two in a room and pay as if they both have rooms. I had solved that problem and they wanted help again with the new recruits. I was starting Gambia University and could not help them out. I asked the company how they expected my help, even though its my duty, but they failed in their duties to protect the innocent unarmed school children! Almost all except one blamed the Para military and told me some of them threatened to shoot the Para military back if they continue the firing at civilians, but they had no command!  Hence my belief that there is still good in Gambians, even the GAF and they will fight on the peopl e's side when called upon! Not even Gen. Masanneh Kinteh will prevent that!

It is this and the duty to my country and God, that holds me dear  to discipline forces. Until the country is out of the state of war imposed on us by Yaya and his Casamance rebels, it is the duty of every Gambian and those duties vary and as a member of the reserves, I stay fit and tuned for that day my country needs us to kick the dictator out.

I will recommend to the next republic that you be our first AG, if they will listen! For we will need fiery, brave legal luminaries like yourself to ho ld government in checks and balances, I promise!

Ron,

Thanks for the golf news, I heard the Olympic victory for golf. By the way, I have the same problem getting other Africans to play golf with me, I live near massive golf courses, West Scotland and none of my African friends is interested in playing or even talking about it!
Maj. Gen. L. Tamba deserves this treatment after lying to the retired Colonel about the last coup that claimed a lot of lives and freedom. On the other hand Tamba is a nice guy, I met him in Turkey in 1992, where he was often bitter about Lt. Binneh Minteh and Musa Mboobs' extravagancy. Gen. Tamba is not capable of a coup if you ask me!
What is really confusing is the number of generals in that tiny army, of less than a full fledged battalion size. At least 5 generals were there, including my junior, Maj. Gen. Serign Modou Njie, who was a lieutenant when I left, less than 8 years ago. How rapid those promotions were achieved is mind bugling. Another observation is t he torpedoing of Brig. Gen. Masaneh Kinteh over Drammeh, who incidentally is a maj. gen. a rank higher than Kinteh's and now he is to be his junior's deputy! Only in Gambia Armed Forces!
Gen. Kinteh is a career soldier unlike any of his predecessors, a graduate of Sandhurst Military Academy, not political, so the soldiers will love and they do really respect him! If he is worth his salt, even though he cannot refuse the appointment, but can turn the armed forces into a true armed forces and hopefully will not be allowed to be arrested like an unarmed civilian, when the dictator orders it.
The arrest and or the sacking of Gen. Omar Mbye(super Hoowa!), Demba Mbye and Capt.? Lamin Fatty cannot be based on any evidence, as those people are not capable of organising a coup! Maj. Bora Colley and not Badjie as reported by Echo is a really a non-entity, a secondary four graduate, who should not even be a sergeant, much more a senior army officer rank of Major! The same goes for Capt. Lamin Fatty. I pity the soldiers who serve under those ignorant untrained buffoons! Yaya Jammeh does not have a clue or any inclination to do our country any good. The only reason Bora Colley (my class or badge mate, who was  corporal when I saw  him last) was commissioned was because of his involvement with the Yaya's infamous murder squad! For him, no sympathy, only 'I did tell you so! ' and a court martial in the next republic.
Most soldiers in Gambia Armed Forces are decent folks contrary to popular perception and are bitter about the hijacking of the army by the Kanilai butcher and we should not be hard on all of them, but only those who go political or criminal!

I'm hoping you wanted to share Gen tamba's story with us. I didn't see anything . Please send again. Thanx. Haruna. Oh BTW, Golf is going to be part of the Olympic games from 2016 (Braseeeel) onward. I think baseball and something else was dropped. Also the President's Cup challenge is going on in San Fran. This is where a team of international players challenge a USA team for the cup. It is all about pride and prestige because there are no cash prizes. Woods and Stricker have been paired by Freddie for the first two days so far. Check it out on the Golf Channel.

Send us your story again. I didn't see anything. Later. Haruna.

I'm glad you shared this about Islam Suntou. THEREFORE:

The Qur'An did NOT Prescribe gammies (whatever the permutation)
The Qur'An advises on lifestyles and aims to limit their debilitating affects.

And Because the Muslim's spiritual guide is the Qur'An, the Muslim is not advised on the number to gammy. The only reason the Qur'An even ventured into gammy and circumstance was because of widowers, orphans, children, and contagion.

I knew something will come out of this chatter. Haruna.

Your views Demba is not more enlighten than that our Maker. So in as much you disagree with it, your analogy is flaw as Islam did not recommend it for20after battles only. I will refer you the verses .
If you and I can't handle it, some men can and besides, forward the solution to the surplus women if you may. Islam regulate the types of polgamy that was practised and it put a limit to it.

I think polygamy is a recipe to endless problems many of our men create for themselves. If you cannot handle the one woman you have in your household, how in the world can you handle two or three, four or six?. It is like being an alcoholic and adding hard drugs on to it.

The excuse that great men died in Battle s and therefore it was ok to take their wives is no longer practical. If one woman cannot satisfy you no amount of women will satisfy you.

Its a false excuse to say it is religious or tradition. It is greed and self fulfilling20fantasies.  The victims are the innocent children who gets caught up in the fight.
