I will always ask this very important question to Gambians and Africans in
general.

When will it all end?

I am not trying or attempting to reply to those critics of mine but only
saying that if anyone has time to write to help Gambians bit riddance to the
slave mentality that governs our thinking and writings it is now time that
all Gambian intellectuals and writers to take their responsibilities
seriously to assert and take their position as crucial for a timely wake-up
of our oppressed and exploited Gambian masses.

The struggle for the total liberation and independence of the Gambian people
to construct a lasting genuine democracy, justice and national development
will be rightly judged by history not by petit-mentality bare footed
politicians and writers.

Why can’t we understand that the continuation of the slave mentality
governing our thinking and writings is indisputably the basis of the
Gambia’s woes and lack of political and economic progress and development
since the attainment of independence from the British colonial power?

In order to reverse this unfortunate situation and experience a real
development, Gambians should begin to re-orientate their thinking and
mentality so as to wean themselves completely from the infection and
influence of colonialism and neo-colonialism which continues to prevail in
the Gambia.

“Truly speaking we Gambians can obtain a resounding victory if we all are
ready and willing to move beyond our petit political differences and for
sure we can inspire a new form of responsible leadership to faithfully serve
the Gambia in the future’’

Frankly speaking Gambian political leaders, intellectuals, armchair
revolutionaries and hypocrites (quislings and traitors) should realize at
this stage of the history of the Gambia that they have failed and
disappointed the Gambian people in their efforts to move the Gambia forward
towards freedom, progress and national development; and for this reason,
there is the need for a quick turn-about in order to save the Gambia from
further suffering and undevelopment.

Accusations and counter accusations will serve no cause except reassure
President Jammeh of his grip in power.

As intellectuals and writers are the torch bearers and beacons of
enlightenment and advancement for the Gambian society, they should become
the pivots of correct information and knowledge that will effect the
necessary change in the thinking and mentality of the Gambian people which
in turn will bring about the desired advancement of the Gambian masses.

What is happening for Allah’s sake are we Gambians unable to see the reality
and accept the fact unlike President Yaya Jammeh the brutal killer of our
journalists and our democracy that all highly developed countries has
reached their present stage as a result of the works of writers and
intellectuals whose progressive thoughts, ideas and ideals did influence and
made great impact on the thinking and mentality of the people.

Cultural revolutions and transformation of societies had taken place at one
time or the other in different parts of the world as results of the ideas
and thoughts that had flowed from the pens of writers and intellectuals.

I will say without ambiguity that educative literature and progressive
writings for that matter will inspire our dear people and trigger off the
development of the Gambian society.

One has to note that within the African continent the ideas and thoughts
which flowed from the pens of various writers did spark off the Panafrican
revolution i.e. the Ghanaian revolution under Osagyfo Dr.Kwame Nkrumah, the
Guinea Conakry revolution under the leadership of Ahmed Sekou Toure, the
Guine-Bissau revolution under the leadership of Dr. Amilcar Cabral, the South
African revolution under the leadership of Dr. Nelson Mandela, the Great Al
Fateh Libyan revolution under the leadership of Muammar Al Qadhafi, the
Mozambican revolution under the leadership of Samora Moise Machel, the
Namibian revolution under the leadership of Dr. Sam Njuma, the Angolan
revolution under the leadership of Dr. Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, the Algerian
revolution under the leadership of the FLN.

Similarly outside of the African continent the ideas and thoughts which
flowed from the pens of writers did spark off the Cuban revolution, the
Bolivian revolution, the Sandinista Nicaraguan revolution, the Iranian
Islamic revolution, the German unification in the 18th century, thus
bringing the various states of Germany together to unite and become a
powerful nation.

Similarly the influence of progressive literature on retrogressive societies
were attributed to the outbreak of the French revolution in the 16th century
which abolished the old monarchical system of rule and other retrogressive
practices in France and ushered in a new era of knowledge and enlightenment
which moved France forward as a powerful nation in Europe.

Similarly, in the 18th and 20th centuries, the American and Russian
revolutions not forgetting the great Chinese revolution under the leadership
of Moa Tse Tung took place respectively as results of the influence and
impact of the thoughts and ideas of various writers and intellectuals.

But for God’s sake and to tell the truth who on this earth can stand up to
deny, villipandize or demonize all those leaders who led the above mentioned
revolutions that no blood was shed and errors committed for the triumph of
freedom and justice?

Only fools, cowards, armchair revolutionaries and reactionary run away
misleading intellectuals and writers who fear to lay down their lives for
freedom and justice can say such a thing.

I wonder and I do not know if all Gambians should think like these traitors
and quislings who are not ready to lay down their lives for freedom and
justice.

But who will die for them?

Should we send unarmed and untrained people to wage the struggle without any
experience?

“We have to be aware and be intelligent that we should never send a sheep to
arrest or kill a wolf’’ because this is going to be the great battle of the
weak and the strong known as (Baakotong tambati aning sulu bulukenseng lah
kello)

One thing is also very clear that it is impossible at one go for all
Gambians to arise and overthrow the rotten Jammeh oppressive junta regime.

There will be great sacrifices needed to positively change the status quo
and this demands valiant patriot’s breakers of barriers and restrictions to
take the lead.

Let us target the wrongs of Jammeh and fight to eliminate them.

This was why under the able leadership of Koukoie Samba Sanyang valiant
Gambian patriots laid down their lives to fight for freedom and justice.

It is an insult to the martyrs of the 31st July 1981 revolution who laid
down their lives for freedom and justice that they were misled by Koukoie
Samba Sanyang.

Wait a minute for God’s sake can anyone tell me especially those so-called
great writers and self-styled Gambian liberators and redeemers how this 31st
July 1981 revolution failed and many people got killed? If really the 31st
July 1981 people’s revolution failed why then did Senegal brutally intervene
to save whom and what?

This is doing injustice to the Gambian nation.

How with this colonial mentality can we write the true history of the Gambia
for our children leaders of tomorrow to learn and appreciate the
achievements of their fathers despite whatever limitations and shortcomings?

Since the 31st of July 1981 we have noticed with great sadness and regret
how ill-willed, short-sighted people who hate their own people and deny
their own history have continuously attacked the 31st July 1981 revolution
and the valiant patriots’ breakers of barriers and restrictions who laid
their lives for freedom and justice and have striven to blemish and change
its meaning, content and aim to deceive Gambians.

We feel pity for such people when we notice why such people cannot realize
the truth and we are astonished at their not comprehending the loftiness of
the 31st July 1981 peoples revolution.

This is and it is total ignorance for those writers who for pleasure sake
and a show of intellectuality taking the Gambian people for a ride and
wrongly believing that they can write and forget to realize and acknowledge
that history has thought us that the greatest revolution on earth, like the
great Universal Islamic revolution of Allah the creator led by our venerated
Prophet Mohammed (SAS) that triumphed because devote Muslims laid down their
lives in the service of Allah their creator to changed the whole world
defeating evil.

Without this great Universal Islamic revolution mankind was doomed to hell.

What about the great revolution of Prophet Moses (Musa) against the
heartless great Pharaoh and how many people suffered and died?

For Allah’s sake please great writers misinterpret me not for no one on this
earth can equal himself to our Holy Prophet Mohamed (SAS) neither can we
compare the 31st July 1981 revolution or any other secular revolution to the
coming and triumph of the divine word of Allah Islam.

This is just to help confusionists and saboteurs abandon their bit to
confuse Gambians and retard the triumph of the people’s revolution.

For the love of Allah and our dear Gambian people stop confusing our people
for it has never been said at any time by Koukoie Samba Sanyang or any other
person that only Koukoie Samba Sanyang shall be leader or only wish himself
alone to be President of the Gambia. What Koukoie is saying is that let all
of us join together with one word, one aim and, choose an able peoples
leader and rescue sinking Gambia.

It will be too late for Gambians to start digging a well to use its water to
put off the fire already burning the whole Gambia.

We all have a duty towards our Gambian nation state.

It is highly imperative that Gambian writers and intellectuals should learn
and take a cue from what had happened in the western developed world through
literature and begin to shape and tailor their writings to trigger off
progress and development in the Gambia.

To be able to achieve these lofty ideals Gambian writers and intellectuals
should free themselves of their hitherto slave mentality and colonial
orientation, and imbue themselves with pure African Gambian thinking and
philosophy aimed at informing and educating the Gambian to become truly
independent in thinking as a self-confident being who is richly endowed and
capable of mastering his own destiny.

In this democratic and civilized world every Gambian is free to write and
say whatever one feels and thinks.

In writing to achieve misleading the Gambian people without proof of what
one is saying or writing is a crime against the Gambian people. Why try to
cheat the Gambian people? The time for storytelling and Robin Hood tales is
over.

Anyhow freedom and democracy doesn’t mean that we should abuse our rights
and say or write what one likes or feels like writing. In a true democracy
no newspaper should refuse to publish somebody’s ideas but at the same time
writers should not distort the idea of free speech and free press and
sabotage the mission of newspapers in educating the misled and oppressed
masses.

The kind of writings that should emanate from the pens of Gambian writers
and intellectuals should project progressive African Gambian values,
practices and ideals that will inspire and influence Gambians to make
realistic efforts to develop our country from our own wisdom and resources
that Allah has endowed us with.

Indeed this will be highly and more beneficial to the Gambian than materials
that will promote colonial and neocolonial mentality and foreign ideals.

On the other hand no one can deny or agree to the fact that it is the same
writers and intellectuals’ ideas that shall make and forge a good and
democratic people’s leader for Gambians and a modern Gambia.

I am very sure that we Gambians will be able to develop our dear country
from our own divine wisdom and resources and not from anywhere else or
imitating others like what monkeys does.

This unpleasant truth should dawn on Gambians now in the 21st century so
that we will stop the hypocrite attitude of what others say about us is
right and not what we ourselves think and believe to be good and right for
us, let us stop imitating and relying on vain hopes, futile and less
rewarding ideas and concepts.

Why should we be caught unawares by Jammeh’s evil traps and maneuvers to
divide us and wickedly rule us? Should we be fighting amongst ourselves and
forget to make great efforts to unite and uproot this Jammeh evil system?

For sure we will never agree with Jammeh cohorts and those Kumanding
jellelalou.

I think it is high time we realize what great danger lies ahead of us and
seek for adequate solutions and remedies to Gambia’s problems.

Today my fellow Gambian citizens there exists a great need for positive
collective action rather than fighting in isolation an enemy who is well
armed and have huge reserves at his disposal to rescue sinking Gambia which
requires a clear understanding of our problems, the nature and how we are
wickedly divided, our needs, our collective efforts to be summed up for the
great sacrifice to be made and how in an intelligent manner we have to
compromise to get things straightened out right now.

Today under brutal Jammeh’s reign of terror and senseless destruction of the
Gambia marked by socio-politico-economic tensions raising serious
interrogations as there are many ills to right and many problems to solve
collectively if we are to go through a genuine process of
socio-politico-economic radical transformation of our society for our
survival, security and self-defence.

Every day for the past years of misrule, endless night-mares and misfortunes
The Gambian President with a weakened spirit have ceased to reason and have
become the slave of his own passion.

In his desire to satisfy his appetite of greed, wickedness, tyranny and
oppression his evil schedule included planning state terrorist attacks
against innocent unarmed civilians, unlawful arrests and detentions, murder,
intimidation and criminal business dealings to rape our country off her
meager foreign reserves causing unrepairable damage to the administrative
engine and a total economic mess.

Dictator Alhagi Jammeh prefers the work of his evil imagination (gust,
speculation and wishful dreams like Idi Amin Dada) to fashion his world and
his way of life only to satisfy his greed.

Confused Jammeh’s ultra-neo-colonial junta regime has weakened the fabric of
Gambian social life. This sad situation and state of affairs is not the
choice of the Gambian people but the making of the autocratic regime. This
evil choice emanates from Jammeh’s behaviour and evil desire. This evil
desire is aimed at wickedly dominating Gambians, to exploit and oppress them
against their own will.

Remember and be aware that no amount of destructive criticism will deter me
Koukoie from the struggle for freedom and justice.

May be one day when I am no more will my grave witness and testify to my
sacrifice struggling for freedom and justice for Gambians.

What I Koukoie need is constructive criticism from responsible Gambian
intellectuals and progressive writers to fashion my way of thinking and
shape the Gambian revolution.

                                                      Koukoie Samba Sanyang
