Thanx Dad for sharing. If you don't listen to me, I'm glad you will learn from Foroyaa that La-Guinea's anxiety is Gambia's anxiety and that there are enormous parallels in what unfolds in La-Guinea to Gambia's life. All Foroyaa did was re-present the UN report conclusions to draw the lesson of the corruptibility of power. What I do is guide corruptible power to render it benign for powerless folk instead of wait to learn obvious lessons of morass. Now who's your bestest uncle???
Haruna. I haven't forgotten about yew. I just have to write a Christmas letter first. Mams, I don't wanna hear it.

Foroyaa Editorial : The fragility of Political Power, Where is Dadis Camara?

Since the 3rd of December 2009, President Moussa Dadis Camara has been out of Guinea after an assassination attempt. He has not been heard from since that day. Where lies his power as President. It is hanging in the balance of probability. It is not clear whether he is conscious or unconscious. It is claimed that he was shot in the neck and is severely injured. He has never been able to make a foreign visit. His only opportunity is based on medical grounds. He never expected that after the massacre of over 157 innocent citizens he also would be a victim of the same gun which he turned against the people.

According to the leaked UN report on the investigations into the incidence of murder and rape in Guinea, the Guinean leader Moussa Dadis Camara bears direct responsibility for the Sept. 28 killings by security forces.

“The commission considers there are sufficient grounds for presuming direct criminal responsibility by President Moussa Dadis Camara.”

“The commission recommends that the International Criminal Court be seized with respect to those persons on whom, according to this report’s findings, weighs a strong suspicion of crimes against humanity,” of violence including mass killings, rape and sexual mutilations of opposition supporters.
According to the international media ‘The UN inquiry, based on 687 interviews conducted by investigators in the capital, Conakry and elsewhere in late November and early December, corroborated witness reports that more than 150 people were killed or went missing at the rally.

At least 109 girls and women were subjected to rape, sexual mutilation and sequestration for repeated rape, with hundreds more people subjected to torture and abuse.

The report termed the killings and rape as “systematic” and “organised”, contradicting Camara’s initial argument that unruly elements of the army were to blame.

Apart from Camara himself, the inquiry held as responsible his former aide and would-be assassin, Aboubacar “Toumba” Diakite, and another Camara ally, Claude Pivi.’’

What is the use of the power he usurped? How has he been benefitted? What could have been better than to have presided over a transition to democratic constitutional rule and live in peace and reverence? As the old saying goes: Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is the danger of hunger for power.
