Jobe threatened to abandon her there if she refused and she reluctantly went ahead.

The trial heard Jobe had married a Gambian woman – the mother of his daughter – in England in 2003. There was no record of him divorcing her or her death.

Jurors heard how following the marriage to Julie Stead, Jobe deceived an entry clearance officer at the British High Commission in Banjul and was granted a two-year UK visa.

The couple split in 2007 but Jobe told a Home Office worker in 2008 that Miss Stead and he were still living together. He got indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

The court also heard how he assumed the identity of Carl Davies sometime after the Liverpudlian's passport went missing in the post. Jobe's photo was grafted onto Mr Davies' stolen passport.

Jobe – who overstayed in the UK after his student visa expired in 2001 – went on to accumulate motoring convictions and a police caution in the name of Carl Davies.

Jobe also got a £54,950 mortgage by deception after using fake ID.
Prosecutor Andrew Dallas told the jury they were dealing with three different identities and dates of birth.

Jobe "number one" was born in 1978, Carl Davies in 1980 and Ahmed Sheikh Jobe in 1981. Documentation appeared to show the two Jobes had the same mother.

When Jobe was arrested at his home police found a stash of different identity documents: 16 photocopies of the information page of Carl Davies's passport were found under his bed.

Judge Jennifer Kershaw, adjourned sentencing but warned Jobe that a prison sentence was inevitable.
