Laye, thanx for sharing this quote of Halifa's. I think you guys are doing a wonderful job here. Let me see if I can figure out what this says to me:

[There are no politicians who should take politics as a career.] Halifa.

I will come back to this later. Here I will define Politics and Politician:
Politics is the art of harnessing a community's desires and to synthesize such desires with their common constitution.
A Politician is the artist of politics.

[Each Gambian is a political being] Halifa.

Each Gambian forms part of the Gambian Polity.

[who owns the country] Halifa.

It may be too far-reaching to suggest that Each member of the polity owns the community or the nation in this case. It is more correct to say that each Gambian owns an interest in the country.

[and has authority to give his or her consent for some to manage it to promote their liberty and prosperity.] Halifa.

Yes. Each member of Gambia's polity has the option to give his/her consent or dissent to his/her fellow citizen to act on his/her behalf in matters of governance. In democratic countries, we complete this by vote or power of attorney. When the politician receives a Gambian's vote, that politician is now duly elected to act on said Gambian's behalf in common governance. The Assembly hall is not large enough to hold all citizens that is why a representative proportion is elected to act on the behalf of some.

[Hence each should listen to all proposed solutions to our national problems and endorse credible options without fear or favor, prejudice or malice.] Halifa.

This doesn't make sense Laye. Gambians are encouraged (not "SHOULD LISTEN TO") to consider (NOT LISTEN) or NOT CONSIDER what anyone peddles and endorse as we see fit. The "without fear or favor, prejudice or malice" was implied once the right to consider is established. Something tells me even if Gambians are free and happy, PDOIS/Halifa will tell them they ain't so. And he will try to make them Halifa-free and Halifa-happy.

[Each Gambian should own him or herself and be involved in shaping the destiny of the country for the good of all."] Halifa.

This is good advice and we thank Halifa for it. We also encourage him to own himself and be involved in shaping the destiny of our country, to the best of his abilities, for commoner good.

Haruna. Easy men.
