Dear Pa, Michael & all my Readers,

Based on well calculated security concerns, I hereby withdraw the nomination of Solo for the publicized “Political Reporter of the Year” by Freedom Newspaper. I sincerely regret having to be trapped in this situation. To keep the communication short, a lot of questions are arising from people who are interested in endorsing him for the award, which I won’t be able to share privately or in the open. Since I am unable to share any details about his person, at this point, I consider it right to sincerely withdraw his nomination. To those that responded to my call privately, I thank you for your participation, and regrets that I am unable to share details about him.

I thank you for your kind attention.

Sincerely,
Yero

Gainako’s Solo nominated: “Political reporter of the Year.”

Dear Pa & Michael,

I once again thank you for the initiation of the two journalistic awards. In my observation, it will go a long way encouraging journalists to keep to their professions. Freedom and its sponsor, Michael must be hailed for this move.

Henceforth, I am hereby nominating Gainako’s hometown correspondent Solo for the notable award of excellence, “Political Reporter of the Year” as published by Freedom Newspaper on February 18th 2010, (http://www.freedomnewspaper.com/Homepage/tabid/36/mid/367/newsid367/4943/Breaking-News-Gambia-Press-Release--Freedom-Newspaper-Announces-Gambian-Journalist-Of-Year-Award/Default.aspx ).

Here is why:

Political news reportage: Undoubtedly, people all over has hailed his reportage of political affairs, notably comments about his articles can be found on the Gambia-l, Gambia-Post, Bantaba Cyberspace, Gainako, other blogs, etc…Solo’s reportage is unique.

Journalistic experience: Solo is a seasoned writer with decades of journalistic experience. During the trial of the six journalists, it was mighty Solo who was reporting right from the court house –updating Gambians about what is happening.

Government Check and Balance: Solo’s monitor on Government’s affairs, from Jammeh all the way down to the civil servants is noted, ranging from hires, fires, political disappearances, miscellaneous occurrences, etc…

Opposition parties: It is mighty solo who reported about the big meetings. He wrote about the UDP meetings, notably most recently in Churchills Town and Ebo town –the Femi Peters’ case; the NADD gatherings, etc…

Youths’ reportage: Most recently as noted, solo visited Banjul and captured the plight of the youths and how they reacted towards Jammeh’s administration.

Mr. Editors, the list goes on and on. My colleagues -Editors Baldeh (Seattle, Washington) and Lamma (North Carolina) will attest more about Solo’s honesty and deliverance of good service. After you widely published this award, I was forced to believe in my inner-self that your judges read Gainako daily, and are aware of Solo’s excellent service to our nation and people as a whole. In fact, to support my argument, I cannot count how many times, Freedom’s own pioneer Pa Nderry Mbai complemented Solo for a good job. I personally cannot count the number of political articles Solo sent to Gainako –some published with his name, and others just published without his name as the editorial team decide.
In my honest thinking, and my humble observation, Solo deserves to have this award. Solo is a roving reporter whose commitment to enlighten about our political affairs is a milestone. Solo represents a part of Gambia’s political struggle, and a sacrificing Gambian whose work is not money-driven but desire to strife for human freedom.

I therefore refer you Gainako’s archives (www.gainako.com) to reference Solo’s work. While submitting this, I very well know this is only my humble nomination based on observation. As the judges decide, I am a follower of the rules regarding the award and its merits. I take this opportunity to appeal to all readers to nominate Solo for this award. Please readers e-mail [log in to unmask] and nominate Solo for this award.

If I live to see Jammeh gone out of power, I will announce mighty Solo’s name for all to know. If I don’t, I hope Solo himself will volunteer to tell you who he is, or iconic Baldeh & Lamma will tell you.

Sincerely Submitted,
Yero Jallow, MN (USA)
