By Fabakary B. Ceesay

Information gathered by Foroyaa about the dismissed senior security officers indicates that the following ex-officers are currently in detention since they were sacked from the military and police forces on Tuesday 2nd March. Foroyaa has also gathered that one of the dismissed officers who was also detained has been released.

According to our findings, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ensa Badjie, alias "Jesus," Rear Admiral Sarjo Fofana, Commander Gambia Navy and Major Kuluteh Manneh of Gambia Armed Forces Headquarters, are all in detention, since on Tuesday. Foroyaa is also reliably informed that Lieutenant Famara Jasseh of GAF Headquarters has joined his family at their home in Lamin. A family member told Foroyaa that he was released on Friday 5th March.

However, Foroyaa is yet to establish the whereabouts of Colonel Mam Matarr Secka, former commander of the Military Police, and Lieutenant Abdoulie Jatta, who were also among those dismissed from the Gambia Armed Forces on Tuesday 2 March and are said to be detention.

Family members of Major Kuluteh Manneh told Foroyaa that he (Manneh) did not come home since after it was announced that he had been dismissed from the Army. They said it was only heard that he is in detention at Mile 2 Prison. According to the relatives, they do not know how to make visits to people held at the prison.

Foroyaa also learnt that ex-IGP Badjie’s family has been evicted from the government provided apartment they were occupying in Kotu. However, when this reporter visited the family home of Mr. Ensa Badjie (former IGP) at Tallinding Koloban to enquire about his situation, some of the relatives met there were not keen to talk, but according to an elderly relative it is difficult to come to terms with the situation and have therefore left everything in the hands of God.

Family members of Rear Admiral Sarjo Fofana, the ex- Commander of The Gambia Navy, have confirmed his detention but could not tell where he is being held. They said since he was dismissed from the armed force on Tuesday 2 March, he was brought to his house at Brusubi on Wednesday 3 March, by heavily armed soldiers who took away all his military uniforms. The family said since then they did not hear from him or know his whereabouts.
In a separate but related development, Foroyaa also learnt of the arrest and detention of one Sillaba Samateh, a Gambian businessman. The family said he was taken away by some men since Wednesday 3 March, and he never returned home. Mr. Samateh, who is said to own the Amsterdam chain of shops, is a businessman importing materials from Amsterdam, Holland.
