Mahmoud Babadi Sarr, who had served in the Gambia Navy as a commander before his removal, is reported to be arrested and detained.

Mr. Sarr, according to a family source, left the Navy almost five years ago and has not taken any other responsibility in government service since then.

The family source informed this reporter that Mr. Sarr was arrested since on Saturday 13 March at his home in Kerr Serigne around 9:00am. The source added that he was picked up by security officers believed to be from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), who came and asked for him while he was in bed and that those who picked him up were three in number, including the driver of the vehicle in which he was taken away.

The vehicle in which he was transported, revealed the source, was without a number plate.
The relative explained that since his arrest and subsequent detention, the family has not been informed of any reason for his arrest and or his whereabouts.

According to the source, the family is quite confused as this is the third time that Mr. Sarr is being arrested and detained since he left the military.
They described him as a dependable family head and called on the authorities to enable his family to have access to him.
