Banjul, Gambia - Gambia's jailed opposition leader and Campaign Manager of the United Democratic Party, Femi Peters, Wednesday filed an appeal against his conviction at the High Court in Banjul.

Peters' counsel, Ousainou Darboe, said an appeal regarding the matter was filed at the High Court Wednesday, adding, however, that as of now, no date has been fixed for the matter to be heard.

Peters was recently convicted and sentenced to a one-year jail term and also ord ered to pay a fine of D10,000 on the spot.

He was accused of holding a political rally and using a loudspeaker without perm ission from the Office of the Inspector General of Police, as required under the Public Order Act of the 1997 constitution of The Gambia.
